Competition is a healthy thing and learning to win or lose should be equally considered. singing the praises of the others in the race with sincerity will make you feel and look like a nicer person. In order to win at anything or indeed just to take part you need to have practised, tried your best and had a healthy shot of adrenalin pumping round your circulation for most sporting activities.
