Recording devices

There are many dictaphones and digital recording devices you can use to record sound for your action research. There are also many other devices that you can use to do this, including those shown below:

As well as recording something, you might wish to use sound as a way of expressing your research findings, perhaps as part of a dissemination presentation. For example, you might have been researching the effects of playing classical music while learners are doing assessment tasks and wish to play an example as part of your final report.

It is fairly easy, if you are a confident internet user, to find instructions for uploading audio files to a document or online page. For example, here is a video showing how to upload a sound file into a Prezi.

Using audio in action research projects Here are some ways that you might use audio as part of your action research: • Recording participants’ views for transcribing and/ or summarising later. • Capturing your own verbal reflections.

• Presenting your ideas, for example, as part of a visual information diagram, such as a Prezi or a Padlet.
