Many transitions in life are expect- ed, like marriage, the birth of a child or a change in career. These transitions can be planned for in advance and handled without an extreme amount of uncertainty and pain. At other times we may be caught off guard with unex- pected transitions-divorce, the death of a spouse, a personal health crisis or a downsizing of your corporation- these transi- tions are met with fear, uncertain- ty and an overwhelming amount of stress. It’s during times like this that we have to develop coping skills, give ourselves permission to restore ourselves and have faith that there are opportunities on the other side of the event.

C: Choices


When faced with unexpected transition, you will be faced to make many choices. The first choice can be to choose that it is okay not to be okay for a while. Over time, be willing to accept the change, gather your inner resources and make a decision to move forward. You may not have chosen the circumstance, but you can choose how you react to it. You may not be able to control the outside stressors, but you can control your mindset and how you

will react to life’s events. Get in the driver’s seat of your life and choose to create your future instead of reacting to the circum- stances around you.


H: Harmony/balance In times of transition, remaining in
