Nearly every mother I talk to wants to be a healthy and fit role model for their kids, but it seems nearly impossible to do when everything else comes first. Or so most believe, un- til they discover a whole new way to think about health, fitness and self-care. Not only are there simple ways to incor- porate healthier choices, the more you take care of yourself and listen to what feels good physically, emotionally and mentally, the more you will naturally gravitate to healthier behaviors and your spiritual guidance.

Making Small Changes That Feel Good


The first secret is to decide you are a priority and taking care of yourself is just as im- portant as all the other things you do. That in itself is being a good role model for your kids. You can do this in ways that doesn’t feel like you are taking away from your family. For example, if you are doing a lot of driving and have times when you are on your own, you can make that “your time”. You can use it to listen to a book on tape, play your own

music or soak in the silence. You can also reconsider what you’ve taken on and ask for some help.
