Happiness From page xx

life. So, when I became disil- lusioned with my life, I thought I needed to dramatically change myself — become lovable, healthy and a better person — before happiness would arrive. But I eventually realized that the only reason I couldn’t find happi- ness was because I thought that something was missing from my- self. Nothing was missing — I was already all there. I just didn’t know what I was looking for or how to find it. Then I had a lightbulb moment as all of the points of my learning led me to see:

We are all right now and in every way totally complete.

Yes, we are! You may think this is crazy, because you’ll never really be complete until you’ve lost weight, got a job, built a solid relationship, bought a house, succeeded in your career, made yourself look different, become completely healthy, to mention but a few. How many times have you said: ‘I’d be happy if…’? Even in our everyday speech we often place restrictions on achieving happiness. But why limit yourself?

The point is, are you going to remain unhappy until you’ve achieved your goals (and they may not bring you real happiness anyway) or are you going to learn to embrace your magnificence right now? Which would you rather do?
