NETWORKING FOCUS
RENEWABLES NETWORK
"In such a rapidly growing sector Renewables Network offers crucial information and practical business development opportunities. We are a privately operated and funded network and so can move at the pace required by this dynamic sector. Businesses across the UK are taking advantage of Renewables Network's unique offer and opportunity with membership continuing to grow rapidly. As ever our focus is on delivering value in a cost effective way to our members" Paul Luen, Chairman
From time to time we come across organisations with the drive and enthusiasm which we believe will help the industry as a whole. We have no problem with actively promoting them to help them achieve their goals... Renewables Network based in The World trade Centre, Hull is just such a company.
Their bold mission statement reads “5000 members creating 35,000 jobs, reducing development costs and securing contracts worth £14billion by 2015”
It is now a well researched fact that 85% of individuals and organisations who write down their goals actually achieve them – that fact, coupled with the recent announcement from Siemens and ABP Green Port Hull regarding development in Humberside, we have no doubt whatsoever regarding their future success.
Renewables Network is a private B2B network established to assist members in entering the renewable energy market, quickly and to profitably build long term mutually rewarding commercial opportunities.
Private enterprise Unlike other publicly funded agencies constrained by budget cuts, politics and bureaucracy, Renewables Network is privately funded and focused on delivering real value to its members. It is the only group with a commercially focused, entrepreneurial drive to move the sector out of the clutches of subsidy and into profitability.
It is the first truly self sustaining, national business development network with a simple, definable agenda to support growth in this crucial sector. By joining Renewables Network members will keep up to date with a rapidly developing industry through daily news feeds delivered direct to their inbox. Sector leaders provide thought provoking commentary and opinion, whilst members receive regular invites to seminars, meet the buyer, international SME brokerage and conferences.
Membership services • Daily news update • Opinion articles from thought leaders across sector
• Members Directory • Members discussion forum • Conferences and events hosted by Renewables Network and partner associations
• Private equity forums • Practical business development support
Working together as private, innovation driven businesses Renewables Network members make a key contribution to building a high growth, profit driven renewable energy sector.
RENEWABLES NETWORK BID WRITINGWORKSHOP
The choice of venue we believe is always important – it sets the scene and puts everyone at ease for what invariably is a hard working day, and Forest Pines fits the bill perfectly.
Sam Pick, Business Development Manager, from Renewables Network opened proceedings and updated attendees on progress in renewables, with particular emphasis on the supply chain and the opportunities in the real world.

As regards Hull and Humberside, Sam explained just how significant a player the region is in the renewables sector and in particular the wind energy industry with its fortuitous locality to that activity.
Simon Bacon, a consultant for Defence Solutions Ltd, then took over and informed us of the format and structure of the day regarding bid writing, and a warning of paperwork, paperwork and even more paperwork – not environmentally sound practice but necessary on the day because, he explained, we would not understand the workings of some of the organisations involved, unless we experienced the real world in which they work.
Simon led a very interactive day regarding what is involved and how important it is to get involved with the organisations that make up a large proportion of the contract work, available to businesses generally, as well as in the local area.
Interactive sessions surrounding Public Sector bid writing included...
• Contract notices and expressions of interest
• Success stories • Requests to participate and prequalification questionnaires – part 1
• Pitfalls to avoid in the renewables sector
• Pre qualification questionnaires – part 2 and invitations to tender (ITTs)
• Networking social media and leveraging your contact base
Simon brought things to a close with a summary of the public sector bid process, which included an open forum and conclusion – a very worthwhile day indeed.
