INTRODUCTION

Calculated Risks

Nobody is immune to the present situation but the Wind Energy Industry can be very confident because it ticks all the boxes, from its environmental credentials right through to the young people who are keen to fill the skills gap and become involved.

Numbers visiting the recent University of Hull careers day (featured in this issue) had increased by 50% more than the same event last year – from 3000 to 4500!

WELCOME AGAIN TO THE PAGES OF WIND ENERGY NETWORK. WE CONTINUE TO MEET MORE AND MORE OF YOU AND ARE CONTINUALLY AMAZED AT THE POSITIVE NATURE OF THE INDUSTRY, AND THE POSITIVITY OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED. THIS WILL ENSURE WE SURVIVE WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS THE MOST CHALLENGING FINANCIAL SITUATION THE COUNTRY HAS EVER SEEN.

Our focus feature in this issue is Health & Safety and Risk Management. “Oh no” I hear you cry, but it is such a vital subject area that it has to be given the highest priority to ensure that our people are properly protected. Health and Safety is often viewed with derision because of many factors – mostly staff think it is an inconvenience, and often comment that systems and procedures go way over the top. Having been previously involved in the setting up of general management systems in a previous profession, I will endeavour to expel some of the myths in my Editor’s article in this issue. I believe in the KISS principal (Keep It Simple Stupid!), so I will tell it like it is.

We also feature many events which we have attended on our travels, from award ceremonies, through conferences about the industry’s progress, European collaboration events, and even networking evenings involving ‘Green Drinks’!

ONLINE

We believed our website would develop and grow and we have not been disappointed. Many of you have taken advantage of the opportunities available, so for those who would like to get more involved please take some time to browse what is now available and get in touch.

Unlike the published magazine the online Supply Chain Register is limitless, so you can use us as the shop window for your company specific to the Wind Energy Industry.

Our ‘one stop shop’ events section is also taking off so please get in touch and have your event, or training course, added, so that you do not have to visit many different websites to find out what’s going on!

On editorial please get in touch with your contributions and we will consider them for publication... and remember we do not charge for genuine editorial.
