William O’Neal was the person used by the FBI to set up the assassination of Fred Hampton on December 6, 1969, on the west side of Chicago. INTEGRATION: Out of all the plots and schemes to
destroy the Black race, Intergration was one of the most damaging to their growth and development. It caused black people to abandon their own communities, busi- nesses, and institutions to work for, live with, and support non-Blacks. As a result, the Black community was in severe short- age of economic support and educational expertise. Black businesses got shut down and the people lost faith in Black institu- tions, like the Negro League. In the end, white people maintained control over their original institutions and also took control over Black ones that were abandoned. The Black schools were also assimilated and now we see more drop out rates in Blacks. Even though the sit-ins of the 1960’s, the marches and speeches given by Dr Martin Luther King Jr., and the breaking of the color barriers by others like Jackie Robin- son were meant to fight against injustice, they all played a role in this repression of Black independence. . THE DRUG EPIDEMIC: It’s a known fact that the government
is behind the drug epidemic in the black community. Confessions by such people as freeway Ricky Ross, and the Iran Con- tra Hearings of the lat 1980s with Oliver North are evidence of thatIn order for the Black community to be susceptible to crack cocaine, certain elements had

to be eliminated and others created. The black power movement along with pow- erful Black leaders had to be elimenated, the Black family had to be divided, the Black race had to develop a taste for it, and people had to be willing to sell it. Cointelpro was the solution for some of the obsacles they faced by destroying Black movements. Integration solved anothers by destroying Black businesses and instituitons and emptying the black community of its elite. Less opportunity with business meant more opportunities in other places. The riots after the death of MLK also contributed to the destruci- ton of Black businesses. but what are the other factors that helped bring this reality into existance?
DESTRUCTION OF THE FAMILY: Fifty years ago, and even during slav-
ery, the Black family was the most im- portant foundation in the Black commu- nity. Most of the time, both mother and father were present in the household. In the 1970s, after the destruciton of the black power movement, Black woman were faced with a strange dilemma. They saw themselves at a crossroad between two vast movements; the Black Power Movement, and the Women’s Liberation Movement. The latter demanded equal opportunity and access to the work place as men. Many black women seized this opportunity to experience “true” freedom and abandoned the Black Power ideals. At the same time, the government started giving Black women welfare to help take care of the children because a lot of Black men weren’t financially disposed to help (many had no jobs or were in Vietnam). The main stipulation for getting welfare was to not be married or have a man liv- ing in the house. Millions of Black wom- an took this opportunity to get what they believed was free money and public
