Hats off to Omega 2

Kingfisher Lighting has intro- duced a great addition to the XLS line up, the classically de- signed Omega 2. Reflecting the fit and forget approach to quality you can expect from XLS, Omega 2 features a base and top cap in die cast aluminium and a top canopy in spun aluminium all finished polyester powder coated. Stainless steel sup- port rods from the base ensure a secure fit for the canopy and add to the high specification. The optical unit comprises of a vandal resist- ant polycarbonate lens with a louvred optic ensuring minimal glare to onlookers whilst

Good looks costing less

Redland is launching new colours to its range of Heathland plain tiles under the strapline “costing you and the environment less”. Wealden Red and Eliza- bethan add to the existing Ember, Autumn and Manor House Mix colours, completing a range that includes the most popular shades for tiles in the premium sector of the market. The Heathland range is a perfect imita- tion of hand-made clay tiles, with a through-colour tile body and a fine, coloured sand to finish the surface. Where they differ, however, is in price (50 per cent of the cost of handmade clay tiles) and the embodied car- bon (nearly half that of clay tiles). In the context of the current debate about the best way to achieve zero car- bon targets for new buildings, Redland commissioned engineering consultants Arup to analyse the carbon dioxide emissions of its operations. The results show that concrete tiles, at 91-146Mj/m2

, have a much lower

State-of-the-art style from any angle

Record’s latest 16 RST is a curved sliding door sys- tem that features state-of- the-art electronics. It gives a whole new style and elegance to entrances in commercial and public buildings. Since the curved sliding door has a modular profile using standard- ised components it is possible to install curved or plan doors, semi-circular doors, ellipse or circular shaped and doors curving in or outwards. All pro- files are available in a variety of colours - powder coloured or anodised.

REVOLUTIONISING ROOM DESIGN

A practical and attractive new way to access flexible mains power in offices, schools, hotels, industrial facil- ities and the home is being launched by Steljes Limited. Mainline is a power track that allows a user to instantly add, reposition or remove power sockets anywhere along its length. By providing truly flexible access to mains electricity wherever it is used, Main- line overcomes the restriction imposed by fixed power outlets on room layout. It is safe and conforms to all relevant standards once installed correctly. For the

user, accessing mains power is simple. Mainline power track comes in standard lengths of 2.2m and can be cut to suit, on-site, for shorter length requirements or joined together for longer spans. By inserting Main- line’s unique outlet adaptors at any point along the track and twisting clockwise, a power outlet is locked and “live”. Any number of outlets can be inserted anywhere along the length of the power track.

a formed aluminium reflector provide a versatile light distribution. Lamp options include 70w / 150w SON and Metal Halide along with a 70w version in Ceramic Metal Halide. To ensure complete protection from the elements and minimise maintenance, optics and control gear are sealed to IP55. Omega 2 presents a classic design choice for a range of amenity areas including residential, parks and gardens, pathways, car parks and to the front of civic or commercial buildings.

largely because of the extremely high firing tempera- ture required for clay tile manufacture. This result may help to confound a widely held misapprehension that clay tiles are more sustainable than concrete.

Sealant

supports carbon reduction demands

Achieving air tightness is a fundamental requirement in the construction of energy efficient buildings. The FROTH-PAK foam machine from Dow Building Solu- tions has been specially-designed as a foamed-in-place sealant to help control air leakage from buildings and insulate gaps, cracks, cavities and joints in the building envelope. It can also be used for sealing-in doors and windows and at roof/wall inter- sections. The portable FROTH-PAK system is made up of two pressurised tanks, linked by hoses to a dispensing gun. The contents of the tanks react when dis- pensed and produce a froth-like substance, which quickly expands to up to five times their original volume. The foam solidifies in about 60 seconds, curing to become a solid, permanent structure in around five minutes. The foam adheres to most sur- faces, including wood, metal, masonry, glass and most plastics. FROTH-PAK foam also resists moisture, insulates, damp- ens noise, adds structural support and fills voids, making it a highly-flexible and effi- cient part of the building toolkit.
