The benefits of vinyl cladding
White Young Green Consulting Engineers and John Sisk, General Contractors have chosen to use Timber Trend, Half Log Effect, Vinyl Cladding from Residentiel Vinyl Cladding Ltd. for the Limer- ick Toll Plaza and Administration Buildings for the
new Limerick Motorway and Tunnel Project. Cedar was the chosen colour to contrast with other white sections of the buildings. The major benefit of choosing Vinyl Cladding is its longevity and mainte- nance free attributes as well as a highly aesthetic visual appearance. Timber Trend comes complete with an insulation backing to further its energy and environmental appeal and has a full range of com- plimentary trims to ensure an exact fit. It is extremely tough, has no fibre cement to make it brittle or cover your workers in dust, is totally lead free, fully recyclable, will not rust, rot, crack or split. Residentiel Vinyl Cladding Ltd. offers three differ- ent ranges of Vinyl Cladding – Royalcrest, Durapanel and Timber Trend.

Art and architecture embrace steel windows
A member of the Steel Window Association has pro- duced a series of steel framed screens to form the three storey fully glazed atrium at Great Western Stu- dios in Westminster, London. The storey height steel framed screens, finished in an unusual ‘raw’ steel metallic shade, have been manufactured and installed at Great Western Studios by West Leigh Limited. Measuring up to eight metres in length and 2.4 metres tall, the screens were fabricated in metre wide sections and joined on site using matching steel mullions. West Leigh also had to incorporate a movement joint at the head in order to accommodate potential thermal ad- justments. The majority of the screens are glazed with 16 mm IG units – specified mainly for im-

Resurfacing Queen Street
Bituchem has been specified by Oxford County Council to provide a high quality, natural solution for the resurfacing of Queen Street as part of the Transform Oxford pro- gramme. The surfacing formed part of the enhancement project and was carried out by Caveney Road Surfacing on behalf of Enter- prise and Oxfordshire Highways. Oxfordshire County Council is extremely pleased with the new surfacing which was re- quired to replace broken and rocky concrete slabs that had previously caused a safety haz- ard on the footpaths. The Transform Oxford programme aims to transform the centre of Oxford's transport and pedestrian experi- ence, consolidating the city as a world class economic centre whilst enhancing its status as an international heritage site. Natratex uses a clear binder system and high perform- ance natural aggregates to provide a durable, fully bonded yet natural looking surface. Bituchem provides natural and coloured hard landscaping surfaces for application in both commercial and domestic markets.

prestigious £275 million retail development, keeping the internal atmosphere warm for shoppers and staff. The air curtains were installed by M&E contractors, NG Bailey. Half of the units supplied are 2m long stainless steel Rund air curtains. They are stood verti- cally on their ends at the front and rear entrances of the shopping complex creating an attractive series of architectural pillars. Each vertical Rund supplies up to 3,750m3
/hr of air and up to 24kW of heat. The
vertical Rund air curtains by the entrances incorpo- rate low pressure hot water heat exchangers, allowing them to run from the existing hot water supply and provide air at variable temperatures. The other two models installed are Finesse concealed units for use in suspended ceilings and Mini Optima air curtains.

VIRTUOUS VERSATILITY
The virtuous versatility of the Makrolon®
sheets
from Bayer Sheet Europe was impressively demonstrated once more in the renovation of the Weser Stadium in Bremen, Germany. The roofing made of Makrolon®
of , the polycarbonate from Bay-
er MaterialScience, fits harmoniously into the roof design. In a few weeks, the second construction phase will start, creating an additional 770 m2 roof with the transparent Makrolon®
(PV) modules. 1,500 m2 of the new roofing were
already installed in 2009, using the innovative solar modules. The silicon cells, which are floating be- tween two Makrolon®
photovoltaic
watts of electricity per square meter. In Bremen, the solar modules are not just installed on the roof but they are fully integrated into the roofing.
