Founded in 1976, Polin Waterparks is the largest waterslide supplier in Eurasia, but has really blossomed in recent years. With a massive new factory on the outskirts of Istanbul, an attractive product range and an increasingly global portfolio of projects, the Turkish manufacturer knows a thing or two about fibreglass and is fighting fit. Here company president Baris Pakis reflects on 40 years in the industry and gives us his outlook for the future
Polin Waterparks 40 years behind the experience
The early years Polin was founded as a composites company, but moved into the manufacture of waterslides. We were lucky to start with two countries that are very strict in their norms for both quality and safety, Germany and Austria. Then we started doing projects all over Europe, and then the Turkish market came. We expanded into Asia and finally, by 2003, America. The American continent is important to us because it is the home of the waterpark industry. Today, Polin is one of the world leaders in the design, production, engineering and installation of waterparks and waterslides, having completed more than 2,500 projects in 97 countries. Working with a wide variety of clients has helped us reach several milestones, including the installation of the very first waterparks in many countries, as well as the design of many award-winning rides at parks with world-renowned reputations.
Product range Polin offers the industry’s widest range of products, including signature rides such as the patented King Cobra, Magic Spheres, Spheres, Magi Cone, Space Shuttle and Space Race. And with strategic alliances such as American Wave Machines, Wow Company and Ocean Aquariums, we now offer more than just waterslides! We are a pioneer in the advancement and application of closed-moulded
manufacturing technology, which we first introduced to the industry in 2006. Now we have transferred 100% of our fibreglass production, including bowl slides and family rides, to resin transfer moulding (RTM). This means an attractive “shiny on both sides” finish. Polin also offers its unique and patented Natural Light Effects (NLE) and Special Pattern Effects (SPE). We meet the highest safety and production standards. All Polin slides conform to
European norms and we are the only waterslide company that holds a ISO9001 quality certificate holder from the TÜV in Germany for its complete catalogue of products. All steel parts conform to international DIN standards, all designs conform to ASTM practices, and Polin is CSEI-approved for projects in China.
21st Century success The business has been very good for us over the last 12 years. We have completed many successful projects, and the company is growing in terms of sales, plant capacity, turnover, number of projects, number of countries, awards and brand awareness. The last three countries in our reference list are the Bahamas, Senegal and Argentina. It’s a competitive industry, but we believe our location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia allows us to serve many markets that it is more difficult for other waterpark suppliers to reach.
