NÜRNBERG EXHIBITION CENTRE ANNOUNCES 2015 EXHIBITION DATES

Throughout this year, a number of shows will be taking place at the Exhibition Center Nürnberg, Germany. This month, for example, is the embedded world exhibition and conference (www.embedded- world.de), which takes place from 24-26 February. Following this will be PCIM Europe (www.pcim- europe.com), which will take place from 19-21 May. This is an international exhibition and conference for power electronics, intelligent motion, renewable energy and energy management. In line with the developments in the power electronics market, PCIM

Europe is growing, and in 2015 the global players in the industry as well as numerous new exhibitors will present their innovations and products from the field of power electronics. In addition to the exhibition and conference programme, nine seminars and nine tutorials will take place on the two days prior to the conference. In these, recognised experts will impart basics and trends about power electronics to the participants. Taking place at the same time

as PCIM Europe is the annual Sensor+Test (www.sensor-test.com)

show. This event covers products ranging from sensors and measuring technology to test equipment, and this year has selected ‘environmental monitoring’ as its topic of focus. The events taking place at Nürnberg are always well attended, both in regards to exhibitors and visitors. During 2014, for example, 575 exhibitors were at Sensor+Test and 7,983 visitors attended. Also at the venue this year

is SPS IPC Drives 2015 (www.mesago.de/en/SPS), the event for the automation industry, which will be held from 24-26 November. SPS IPC Drives expects

MURRELEKTRONIK OPENS ONLINE SHOP

Murrelektronik has opened a new online shop which features over 30,000 articles. With a very clear structure, easy to use filters and an efficient search function, the right product can be found in a very short amount time, the company explains. A system of intelligent links with over 100,000 new

data sets ensures that the appropriate accessories are shown for each product, which makes it easy to put together individually personalised packages. It also shows alternative products. Customers who register will benefit from additional

functions including a data cart and a tool that shows the availability and calculates the expected delivery time. www.murrelektronik.co.uk

DRIVE PACKAGE BENEFITS STEEL COMPANY S

oftware – including

CAD, FEA and simulation tools – is used throughout industries, with most designers and OEMs using some form in their daily tasks. Developments mean that the products available today have come on in leaps and bounds, and really do help increase the speed in which design, testing and even prototyping can be carried out. So, this month, our

CAD/software section not only looks into how thermal simulation can help ensure a product ‘does what it’s supposed to do’, but it examines the solutions that enable today’s aircraft to be developed in line with customer expectations; and takes a look at some of the latest software that has been launched to market. SEW Eurodrive has designed, supplied and commissioned a new drive package for Sheffield based Bedford Steels. The new system provides the drive for a set of four rolling stands each containing a set of four rolls. It consists of a high efficiency X-series, shaft mounted bevel-helical gear unit driven by a 450kW ABB energy efficient motor and an ABB panel mounted Low Harmonic Inverter drive, supplied and installed by Halcyon Drives. The new inverter drive features fully regenerative supply that will make a significant contribution to energy savings and

provide much better control than was possible with the old system. The heavy-duty X-series range of

helical and bevel-helical industrial gear units offers a choice of 23 finely graduated sizes, with torques ranging from 6.8 to 475kNm, and high power densities. An off-line oil filtration system was fitted on the new gearbox that will remove water and solid particulates, and any alarm conditions are signalled on the PLC’s panel, as well as alerts being sent to SEW Eurodrive and selected mobile devices. www.sew-eurodrive.co.uk
