PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE HIGH PERFORMANCE INCLINOMETER LAUNCHED

New from Variohm EuroSensor is the SST20, an 82 x 60 x 22.5mm high performance inclinometer which is housed in durable cast aluminium with a full epoxy seal for IP67 protection. Available in single or dual axis versions with CANopen

or 4 … 20 mA current-output, the device is offered in a wide choice of measurement ranges from ±5˚ to full 0…360˚. In addition, the sensor suits horizontal, vertical and headstand mounting and offers resilience to shock and vibration, a wide temperature range and submersible capability. High precision performance for the current output version

includes a resolution of 0.005˚ with repeatability to 0.05˚. The CANopen version has an increased performance specification and will be of benefit for automotive and construction vehicle applications where its industry-standard interface is commonly required for on-board instrumentation, the company explains. Both versions offer a refresh rate of up to 50Hz and a response time of 5ms. Furthermore, wide power supply requirements will suit unregulated supplies on trucks and road vehicles. Connection to the IS200 is via an M12 – 5 pin socket. The CE approved inclinometer meets EN6100 for EMC, and with remote diagnosis without disassembly as well as auto-correct for installation, error, set-up and operation is said to be straightforward. The sensors are aimed at demanding applications in structural monitoring – such as wind and solar energy

platforms, antenna, tower and vessel construction, and large-scale engineering projects. Variohm EuroSensor

COM EXPRESS AND MINI-ITX PROCESSOR

Congatec is expanding its range with the 5th generation Intel Core processor platform up to Intel Core i7-5650U on COM Express Computer-On-Modules and Thin Mini-ITX motherboards. The single-chip processors offer power consumption of 15W TDP and support the next generation of congatec’s COM Express and Thin- Mini-ITX boards for IoT solutions, while maintaining compatibility with previous generations. Both embedded computers allow the connection of up to three display interfaces via HDMI 1.4, LVDS and embedded DisplayPort (eDP). When using DisplayPort 1.2, the individual displays can be daisy chained. Native USB 3.0 support provides fast data transmission with low power consumption. The two SODIMM sockets can be equipped with up to 16 GB SODIMM DDR3L memory. In addition, eight USB ports are

provided, two of which support USB 3.0 SuperSpeed; and four PCI Express 2.0 lanes, four SATA ports with up to six Gb/s, RAID support and a Gigabit Ethernet interface enable fast and flexible system extensions.

According to Rittal, for switchgear with ratings above 1600 amps, Air Circuit Breakers (ACB) and copper connections have to be tested for short circuit and the effects of heat rise. To help, the company’s latest RPE software can supply the actual current carry capacity of all leading air circuit breaker manufacturers, plus the CAD drawings of the ACB connections required to fit within Rittal’s Ri4Power modular switchgear systems. This software facility will reduce build time and assist the

panel builder or designer in complying with the new IEC 61439 switchgear standards, the company explains. Features of the software include generation of copper connection drawings; production of design verification documentation; the ability to generate user’s own documentation; and internal enclosure temperature calculation.

Making a change from IE2 to IE3 is

made easy by the fact that the axis height remains the same. In addition, the maximum increase in motor length is only 26mm and in several cases the IE3 motor is shorter than the IE2. The m200-P motors are designed for

simple fixed speed applications. Costs are minimised by limiting the range of options, although spring-applied brakes are available, and not grading the insulation for inverter operation. The m500-P motors suit more challenging applications. Use with inverters is unrestricted and the full range of options includes brakes, encoders, blowers and plug connectors.

IE3 EFFICIENCY AC MOTORS

Now available from Lenze are the m200-P and m500-P three-phase AC motors. These, the company explains, achieve the premium IE3 efficiency class in accordance with IEC60034-30 without any jump in size compared to IE2 motors. For direct-on-line mains operation with fixed speeds and 400V supply, the m200-P motors offer a power range between 5.5 and 45 kW with a variety of voltages. The m500-P motors cover the same power range and are optimised for use with frequency inverters, but can also be operated straight from the mains.

HIGH-CURRENT HALL-EFFECT SENSORS

Two new high-current models have been added to HARTING’s Hall-effect current sensor range, with typical applications being in photovoltaic inverters, frequency converters or power supplies for welding applications. Half the size and weight of

previous versions, these offer primary current measurements at up to 200A and 300A, and operate over a -40˚C to +85˚C temperature range. Available in a range of standard sizes, the sensors use

the closed-loop measurement principle, which provides a direct

representation of the primary current with an accuracy of up to ±0.5%. They can measure direct and alternating currents, as well as signals with complex waveforms, over a frequency range from 0 to 100kHz. They also offer high resistance to interference from magnetic fields generated by external current-carrying conductors.
