UNIVERSITY LECTURE SPACE SOLVED WITH MODULAR BUILD
The number of students at ending university in the UK has risen steadily over the last decade. As further teaching space
is required to meet the rising number of students wishing to at end university, permanent modular buildings are becoming progressively popular in providing a rapid and cost-eff ective solution. For the second consecutive
year, Roan Building Solutions embarked on a project for Bournemouth University to extend an existing building to increase the number of lecture suites available for the last academic year. Completed in 14 weeks with
just eight weeks spent on site, Roan delivered a new two- storey building made up of six new lecture suites. In-line with the University’s green policies, the new academic
building was developed to BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating for environmentally sustainable buildings. “Modular build is becoming
a popular construction solution for the education sector at the moment as it is much faster than traditional build. It provides an effi cient and long-term solution,” says Mat hew Goff , UK sales director at Roan. As part of the contract,
project works included a full mechanical and electrical fi t- out, a building management system to allow for the effi cient running of the building, an alarm and fi re system, access system, lightning protection, external steps and a ramp. The building was completed in Plastisol, providing a long- lasting and durable fi nish. For more information visit:

Big picture approach to recycling pays off at new learning centre
Leafi eld Environmental has developed an internal recycling bin for Bath Spa University’s newly opened state-of-the art learning centre. The stylish SteriBin is a functional pedal-operated unit which blends seamlessly with the modern look and feel of the building. Leafi eld Business Development Manager Vince Wright
said: “Bath Spa’s sustainability team contacted us in the early planning stages to ask for help to develop a bespoke recycling solution to complement the contemporary building design.” The SteriBin has integral pedals and wheels for easy transit
to collection points and can be produced in a range of colours. The WRAP compliant vibrant lids can suit up to eight diff erent waste streams and each bin can hold up to 65L capacity with an optional plastic liner. The handle was added to allow easy access to the bins for wheelchair users unable to operate the pedal. “This is the second recycling bin Leafi eld has developed
for Bath Spa University for faculty buildings and offi ce areas but now we are also working on an exciting new stacking bin to save space in student accommodation,” he said.
