exhibition preview | Fakuma 2014

Colloids will be showing black masterbatches developed for specific

engineering plastic

applications

optical applications such as LEDs, light guides and lenses, including both high transmission and diffusion types. A number of LED lighting industry applications will be on show at Fakuma. Other Bayer MaterialScience exhibits include its

latest material concepts for automotive interiors and the production system developed with Gerhardi Kunststofftechnik to allow manufacture of a whole range of decorative polycarbonate components at low production volumes from one master mould. ❙ www.materialscience.bayer.com

Bieglo will be highlighting new additions to the range of polymers that it distributes. These include high-per- formance recycled compounds from Canada’s Lavergne. Its Vyteen polycarbonate and Vypet PET and PET/PBT blends are already being used commercially in demand- ing automotive and electronic applications, Bieglo says. The product line includes ISO-certified grades with a wide range of glass and mineral reinforcements. Bieglo will also show products from Hong Kong-

based compounder NHEP, which produces TPEs, glass reinforced PP and PA 66, impact modified PA, POM and engineering PS compounds targeted at applications in the automotive and household products sectors. ❙ www.bieglo.com

Colloids will be promoting its latest developments in black masterbatches for a wide range of applications including PA, PET and SAN. For example, the company has expanded its range of

DSM’s Diablo high tempera- ture grades are formulated for applications in car engine compartments

Pace black masterbatches for PET with a number of new product introductions. Pace PET 4778 is based on a high jet carbon black, and meets the latest EU food contact regulations. Pace PET 13721 is a new develop- ment of this product with the same effective pigmenta- tion properties, but it also has an additional nucleating capability for use specifically in CPET. Colloids has also introduced new carbon black and solvent black masterbatches based on PBT. They are

primarily aimed at the PBT compounding market where they bring the traditional advantages of such colorants, including high gloss, compatibility in glass filled systems and an ability to optimise the moulding behaviour, but with the benefit of full compatibility with the host polymer. Aimed at polycarbonate applications, Pace Black 4357 is a new grade that uses a high strength, high jetness carbon black in a carrier system comprised entirely of PC with no additional lubricants or disper- sion aids. Another new black masterbatch for PC applications is M PC Black 16222 which is specifically for laser welding applications. It contains a special black colorant which is transparent to near IR radiation. For polyamide 66 applications, Colloids has developed

Pace N54/1066, a 40% nigrosine masterbatch based on a PA 66 carrier as opposed to the more traditional PA 6 systems. This optimises the compatibility of the master- batch in PA 66 compounds, while maintaining the benefits of solvent black 7 as a colorant. These include high gloss, compatibility with the coupling agents used in glass filled systems, and an ability to optimise the moulding behaviour of polyamide compositions. ❙ www.colloids.com

DSM will show the latest high temperature resistant additions to the Stanyl PA 46 and Akulon PA 6 product lines. Its new Diablo grades are specially formulated for applications in automotive engine compartments, especially for air intake manifolds, air ducts and charge air coolers, where temperatures can reach as high as 250˚C, the company says. The company will also show examples of the use of

its Stanyl TC thermally conductive PA 46 polymers in heat sinks for LED downlights. ❙ www.dsmep.com

Eurotec will be at Fakuma to promote its UV resistant compounds for automotive exterior applications. These are based on a wide range of thermoplastics and blends
