exhibition preview | Fakuma 2014

X-Rite will be showing a number of spectrophotom- eters, including its latest Ci4200 bench-top and Ci64 portable models. The Ci4200 is a compact spectrophotometer designed for any plastics processing operation seeking to establish or update a colour control programme. The Ci64 portable sphere spectrophotometer is a perfor- mance measurement device for consistent colour monitoring and efficient quality control testing. The company will also show the Pantone Essentials

A. Schulman will present a broad range of products at Fakuma, including the portfolios of several of its recent acquisitions. These include Perrite, Ferro’s Specialty Plastics business and Compco. The global compounder will use the German show to

introduce new biodegradable composites that are used for flexible plastic tubes in cosmetics packaging. It will also introduce PC/ABS materials for fibre-glass replacement in sporting goods. Other materials to look out for on the Schulman stand include polymer alloy compounds for producing high- value, paint-free plastic parts in both matte and high-gloss surface finishes. Among the wide range of flame-retardant solutions on offer will be halogen-free FR masterbatches used in polyethylene film and rotomoulding powders for Class V0 and M2 performance. ❙ www.aschulman.com

Americhem will be showcasing a range of its colour and additive masterbatch technologies, while also promoting its “value engineering” approach at this month’s Fakuma show. Among the new technologies on show will be mBrace,

a softening additive for nonwoven materials. It can be combined with colour and other additives in a single multi-function masterbatch. Target applications include health, hygiene and medical products, apparel, packag- ing and upholstery.

Also on display will be the Nofia range of inherently

flame retardant polymers and additives that Americhem markets in Europe through its exclusive distribution agreement with FRX Polymers. It is targeting applica- tions in melt-spun synthetic fibres, such as polyester. In addition, Americhem will be highlighting its abilities to support the automotive industry with

consistent colour and additive masterbatches on a global basis via its plants in the USA, the UK and China. These use comparable manufacturing equipment and test equipment along with the same databases to ensure a true colour match across regions and to avoid colour discrepancies. Its plant in Manchester, England, recently received ISO/TS16949:2002 certification, which is in line with Americhem’s facility in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA. The company will also be sharing its recently

announced colour trend forecasts for 2015-2016. The six different colour families were developed by a committee of colour trend specialists and a fashion design house in Milan, Italy. ❙ www.americhem.com
