Nordson Xaloy will launch its new X220 barrel inlay alloy at Fakuma, which it claims offers considerably improved performance for general purpose plastics processing applications. X220 is a corrosion resistant bimetallic barrel alloy with a high chromium content – double that of Xaloy’s existing X200 product and greater than European standards for general purpose processing, the company claims. It offers a hardness of 64-69 HRc, against the 58-65 performance of X200. The new grade is claimed to offer a 55% improve- ment in sulphuric acid immersion tests over competi- tive alloys available in Europe and a 44% improvement in hydrochloric acid immersion.

cuts overall pelletizer power usage by nearly 10 to 17%. The Optigon water fi ltration system eliminates need
for a separate fi nes-removal sieve, which in standard systems requires a secondary, dedicated water pump. Instead, all fi ltration is provided by a Polygon drum fi lter, which features 70-micron screens that are fi ner than the 150-micron screens used in standard systems. Driven by a small motor, the drum rotates within the
water that is circulated throughout the pelletizing system by the main process water pump. The fi ltration system is designed so that dirt and fi nes stay confi ned inside the drum until they are evacuated into a collect- ing basin outside the tank. By eliminating the secondary pump, the Optigon

water fi ltration system uses only 1,440 kW per year (measured at 8,000 hours), as against 44,000 kW and 98,480 kW for the company’s Opti-Line and Poly-Line systems, respectively. Since water fi ltration typically accounts for 10 to 17% of the energy consumption in underwater pelletizing, the energy effi ciency of the Optigon system means that overall consumption is cut by nearly that much. Two other energy-saving
measures developed by Nordson BKG are offered as optional features. The fi rst involves complete insulation of the water system, which

ProTec Polymer Processing will be showing its Solido system for manufacturing a broad range of long-fi bre reinforced thermoplastics (LFTs) using a various polymers and fi bres. The pultrusion process produces pellets typically with lengths between 7 and 25 mm.
With Solido technology, the fi bre strands are isolated in the impregnation tool to create the fi laments. The individual fi bres are then coated with the polymer melt in a process that can achieve fi bre contents of up to 60% by weight. Plants can be built with throughputs up to 1.2 tonnes/hour.
