Pelletizer maker Econ is upgrading its test centre capabilities in Austria, India and the USA, with the addition of new equipment. The technical centre at its headquarters in Austria has been revamped and now features a Leistritz ZSE 40 Maxx for trials using an Econ EUP 150 underwater pelletizer or an EWA 50 water and air combi machine. In addition, a Brabender laboratory extruder is available with the EUP 10 underwater pelletizer for


that can be used for trials with Econ’s EUP 150 or EWA 50 machines. Smaller volumes can be run on a Century Extrusion 26-mm twin-screw extruder coupled with a EUP 10


pelletizer.


Also scheduled to open by the end of this year, the Indian test


outputs of 1-30 kg/hour. The US test centre, which will open in Monroe, Michigan by the end of this year, features an ICMA San Giorgio MCM 51-40D twin-screw extruder


centre in Vadodara, Gujarat will feature a CPM Ruiya Extrusion RXT35 twin-screw machine running with a EUP 150 pelletizer and an Econ ESK 140 B continuous screen-changer. ❙ www.econ.eu


RusVinyl starts up new PVC plant


The RusVinyl PVC production facility in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia was inaugurated last month in a ceremony attended by Vladimir Putin, the Russian President


(pictured below). The plant is one of Russia’s largest petrochemical investment projects with a cost exceeding RUB60 billion (€1.4 billion). RusVinyl is a joint venture


between Sibur of Russia and SolVin of Belgium. It has an annual production capacity of 330,000 tonnes of PVC and 225,000 tonnes of caustic soda. The new plant will use ethylene from Sibur-Kstovo’s steam cracker, which has been expanded to meet the demand. Salt will be sourced from Belarus and from the Astra- khan Region of Russia. Huntsman completes Rockwood purchases


Huntsman has completed its previously announced acquisition of the Perfor- mance Additives and Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) businesses of Rockwood Holdings. Peter Huntsman,


president and CEO of Huntsman, said: “The addition of specialty titanium dioxide and performance additives will broaden our product offering and further enable our ability to build the most competitive and successful pigments and additives business in the world”. The acquisition included


the following businesses and products: l Titanium dioxide pigments l Functional additives made from barium and zinc based inorganics used to make colours more brilliant in plastics and other applications l Colour pigments made from synthetic iron-oxide and other non-TiO2 inorganic pigments used by manufacturers of coatings and colorants l Timber and water treatment products l Specialty automotive moulded components Huntsman said that it
