lunchtime market is big business. Whilst the sandwich remains a much-loved favourite to many (according to the British Sandwich Association, 1.69 billion sandwiches were sold ‘on- the-go’ last year alone), the dynamic lunch market is ever evolving. Get your food-to- go offer right and the magic two-hour lunch window can offer plenty of lucrative sales opportunities. Which is why lunch! has fast become established as the trade show of choice for many university catering managers. With nearly six thousand atendees last

year, lunch! may need litle introduction. Since its launch in 2008, the event has enjoyed significant year-on-year growth in atendance (up 37% since 2012) and won three best trade show awards along the way (including, most recently, the top prize at the Exhibition News Awards in February). For 2014, it’s on track for its biggest

sell-out edition yet. As ever, lunch!’s 300-strong exhibitor line-up is comprehensively eclectic, and filled with a who’s who of companies that will be

ith its focus on new innovations from across the food-to-go sector, this

helping to shape the future of the food-to- go sector over the next 12 months.

The latest innovations One of the keys to lunch!’s continuing success is its focus on promoting innovation. The following is just a taste of some of the new products (including food, drink, packaging, equipment and technology) being showcased this September: Already a big word-of-mouth success

in Ireland, the Krüst-Cronut from Krüst Bakery (its take on New York chef Dominique Ansel’s famous croissant- doughnut fusion) will be launching in the UK at lunch! They’re currently one of the only European suppliers who can produce this ‘must-have’ treat on a large scale. New exhibitor eXpresso

PLUS has launched a range of on-the-go drink dispense systems (designed specifically for public sites like universities), featuring

leading hot beverage brands Lavazza, Nescafe Milano, PG Tips, Cadbury, Clipper Teas and Twinings Tea. Cuisine Solutions, the sous vide specialists (who have never exhibited at any UK show before), will be demonstrating how their ‘precise time and temperature technology’ can benefit lunchtime caterers. Usually the preserve of Michelin-starred restaurants, their new solutions include a 58-hour cooked medium rare beef. According to recent studies, drinking water before and after exams can help boost a student’s results. Enhance Drinks, a new British water- enhancing brand, is aiming to help keep

the nation hydrated with its new range, which includes Orange & Passion Fruit, Lemon & Lime, Strawberry & Kiwi, and Apple & Blackcurrant variants. Around Noon Sandwiches’ new

launch for 2014 is Artic Deli – a premium range of frozen, filled hot deli items (including croque monsieurs, paninis, wraps and burritos). Since launching in February this year,

Get Fruity bars have already been snapped up by a host of operators in their home county of Cornwall. The healthy snack, available in three flavours, combines real fruit with British wholegrain oats. Tanpopo Japanese Foods has added

several new additions to its range, including grilled Salmon and Miso Ramen Noodle Soup and, a new vegetarian option, Bamboo & Shitake Mushroom Tom Yum. Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances

will be demonstrating the latest in display refrigeration, with its new Lec Commercial botle cooler range. Burco’s popular range of auto-fill filtration boilers will also be on show. Eco packaging and labelling experts

Planglow have launched a new Gastro Standard-fill Wedge for 2014. The slim- line sandwich pack is made for trimmer servings, and has been developed for healthy choice, as well as value options. Award-winning spiced hot chocolate
