Ilyushin Il-2 from BMJR The Ilyushin Il-2 was a ground-attack aircraft (Šturmovík) in the Second World
War, produced by the Soviet Union in very large numbers. A total of 36,183 built makes the Il-2 the single most produced military aircraft design in all of aviation history, surpassed only by the American postwar civilian Cessna 172. Heavy armor shell around the crew, engine, radiator and fuel tanks accounted for 15% of the total weight. The BMJR model designed by Dave Platt follows the 3-views of the real aircraft, and was intended as a Profile Scale model to incorporate a 2.4g RC for throttle. The proportions of the model however produced a great Profile Stunt design. The model has a 58-inch wingspan with 596 square inches of area for .35-.46 power. The BMJR kit includes 49 laser-cut sheets, all sheet wood, sticks and a complete hardware package. The builder only needs an engine, tank and covering to complete. The price is $137.00.
