Herr Engineering Helio Courier by Matt Andren This convincing early evening
picture is of Matt Andren’s Helio Courier 30-inch free flight to RC conversion model. Matt, who is no stranger to converting free flight models to RC says, “The kit is largely unchanged other than cutting the required control surfaces for the ailerons, elevator, rudder and the slotted flaps with leading edge slats. Functioning landing lights were also installed, using an E-flite light controller. An E-flite BL-180 2500Kv brushless outrunner motor and an E-flite 200mAh 2S 7.4V LiPo power the model in a scale-like pattern. The 5-channel model is equipped with a Spektrum AS6410NBL DSMX 6-channel AS3X receiver with BL ESC and six E-flite 2.3-gram long throw linear servos for control.” Built from the 30-inch Herr Engineering kit, Matt’s Helio Courier has an all-up flying weight of 6.03 ounces.
PHOTO: MATT ANDREN FM Baby Biwingers from Dan Gaston Dan Gaston picked up a Baby
Biwinger kit from FLYINGMODELS last fall and has been having a great time with it. Recently Dan convinced some of his club members to get in on the action as well. Dan writes, “The best I could do was to gather five of the club members models at one time. Here are some of our FLYINGMODELS/ Retro RC Baby Biwingers gathered together. The picture was taken at a recent LZRC club meeting at Daniel’s Hobbies in Berlin Heights, Ohio. We all have had a blast with these models this past winter.” The weekend after this picture was taken, Dan and fellow club members took their Baby Biwingers to the Northeast Electric Festival located at the Akron University Field House.
