Planes of Toledo 2014
The level of detail in Designer Scale must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. George Maiorana’s C-133A Cargomaster (above) is one of those models. George not only built a great model, but also a great display, complete with a mock up (at right) of a Titan II ICBN used as a scale reference to the aircraft’s function. Landing lights, hydraulics and gear doors (below right) illustrate his commitment to the level of detail applied to the C-133A. Cockpit detail (below center) with a full office and flight crew. Note the level of detail on the windshield including the wiper arm and blade. George poses next to his creation (below left). The model was built from his own plans and covered in Flite-Metal. It’s no wonder George earned the Best of Show award.
John Boyko has been rising up in the ranks of scale for a number of years and his talent for building is evident with his Cessna Skymaster (above left). John designed and built the complete model, including the retract system. The Cessna received a well earned second in Designer. Hal Parenti was awarded third place in Designer Scale with his Ryan Fireball (above right). This unique model, like
its full-scale counterpart, features a piston engine in the front and a turbine in the back. The cockpit and pilot detail (below left) of Hal’s Fireball. This beautifully designed and constructed Fokker Universal (below right) was designed and built by Orest Drobey of Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. The model was entered in Designer Scale.
