George Maiorana’s C-133A Cargomaster (facing page) was awarded Toledo’s Best of Show for its authenticity and accuracy. Tom Scully of Kadiz, Kentucky has been competing with this Mirage Nostalgia R.E.S. since 1998. The 112.5-inch wingspan sailplane (above left) only weighs 35 ounces and is now available as a kit from Isthmus Models. Tom placed first in Sailplane. John C. Hoover placed
second in Sailplane with his unique Trix flying wing slope glider (above right). Larry Latowski is no stranger to the competition at Toledo and this year he brought his Zaic Floater (below left) complete with an eye catching color scheme. Larry placed third for his efforts. This nicely trimmed Aquila XL(below right) was built by Joe Mekina of Utica, Ohio.
The Jet category is one of the most colorful sections of the static display as most of the displays are modeled after demonstration teams or in the case of sport jets, pure fantasy. Take for example Roy Maynard’s first place winning BAe Hawk (above left). Roy’s flawless finish and excellent execution to layout
on the Hawk (above right) awarded him the Best Finish in Paint. Paul Sousa of Windsor, Ontario placed second for his bare metal finish on this F-84G Thunderjet (below left) in Thunderbirds trim. Blair Howkins XXL Viperjet (below right) featured exquisite airbrush talent.
