Incredible was just one of many words used to describe Chuck Gratner’s beautifully crafted Riley Model B (above and right) as its mahogany-planked fuselage glistened under 10 coats of varnish. While the model looks like a replica of a Golden Age classic, in reality it was all designed by Chuck. The Riley Model B took home first place in the Sport Plane category and inspired many over the weekend to dream of a full-scale version. George Bassett built this impressive 1941 BC-12 Taylorcraft model (below left) and placed second in the Sport Plane category. Joe Mekina displayed his ExactlyRC Duration model (below right) and placed third in Sport. The model holds the FAI record for flying 18 hours, 6 minutes and 13 seconds in duration for an F5 Radio Control flight with an electric motor.
Bill Lyons built this fitting tribute to Toledo (above) from sheet foam. Bill named his creation the Jupiter Jr. and it features a noteable Toledo native in the cockpit. Neatly trimmed Little Bogie (above, at right) built by David Frantz. This neat model named the e-Go/Fazer(at right) was built by Barney Bauer. Mark Atwood was the only entrant this year for the Aerobatic Plane category. His striking finish on his Proteus (below) earned him a first place.
