Portview provides modern makeover for Lakeland store in Chester.
Portview are fit‐out specialists from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Kitchen and homeware outlet Lakeland had a new 5,000 sq ft store in Chester, formerly Millets, which needed to be re‐fitted, so it was back to Portview, who have already fitted out four of their stores this year.
Portview spent 15 weeks on this project. They had to strip out this two and a half storey space and were responsible for the electrical and mechanical work. They put in new ceilings, walls and floors as well as installing counters, lighting and painting and decorating.
This old building presented the team with challenges and they had to leave the site twice for specialists to remove asbestos and sections of the floor had been destroyed by woodworm. Paul McGovern Portview’s Project Manager explained "Everything had to be stripped back to the shell in this building, in preparation for the addition of a new finish. When asbestos was discovered at the site we had to employ specialists to remove it, and make the building safe. We installed
new walls, ceiling and floors to the Lakeland store as well as new fixtures and fittings. The shop's interior also had to be decorated inside, while painting work was done to the exterior of the Georgian building. As it is a listed property we had to seek approval from a local historical society before beginning any work." They now have a new brighter Lakeland store in Northgate Street, Chester which is open for business. A sixth outlet in Birmingham is due to be handed over to Portview in November to begin a further refit. Paul McGovern added "We have an excellent working relationship with Lakeland which is why Portview has enjoyed so much repeat business from the retailer. This year alone we have successfully completed six other Lakeland outlets."
