A1 Retail chat to Julie Foster, Creative Director for Planet Aspects.

1. Congratulations on your recent triumphs at the VM and Display Awards; what was the inspiration behind launching Planet Aspects and when did it launch? •Planet aspects is an amalgamation of two successful businesses, the senior partners work incredibly well together sharing both creative and commercial ideas and it made perfect sense to combine its administration, production and storage instead of having two separate teams – together we are a more efficient and creative team based in both London and Cambridge, we made these changes in early 2013– thank you for congratulating us on the VM awards, we work very hard with all our clients to deliver their dreams and ideas.

2. Plus‐size mannequins are a huge talking point in the media at the moment ‐ have you noticed an increase in the amount of retailers specifying for plus‐size mannequins? •We are dealing with a number of plus size retailers in developing their own plus size poses of mannequins and torsos. We do have another menswear client (not a plus size profile) that has made their male mannequin generally bigger as their average size has got larger, but this was never really publicised to their customers. We have manufactured plus sized mannequins for many years for our specialist clients – but up until Debenhams no one has been brave enough to use them in all departments (other than plus) and tell the world about it.

3 What has been the response to your plus‐size range? •We have worked very hard with our plus size collection – we have taken advice from the specialists themselves about fit and design, everyone is delighted with them, the clothing ranges look amazing on the mannequins.

4. What do you think the future will hold for the world of mannequins? • I think stores with a mixed profile of customers will begin to use larger mannequins with confidence throughout their stores, but I do believe the younger target market will take longer to convince.

5. What can we expect in the future from Planet Aspects? • Planet Aspects will continue to come up with many innovative ideas and push the boundaries in VM but will always listen to the needs of all our clients.

Yours Clothing have been

working closely with Planet Aspects throughout 2013 to develop and create a VM portfolio of new equipment across our new stores. As a plus size retailer we are always looking for new exciting ways to merchandise and display our product across our 40+ store portfolio. Planet Aspects have worked closely with us to develop a new plus size mannequin and bust forms in size 18. These have a great natural shape which showcases our product perfectly on a fuller figure, and customer feedback has been fantastic!

Statement from Katrina Pyke-Milne, Visual Merchandiser for Yours Clothing.

We have started development work with Planet Aspects on a plus size mannequin for

High and Mighty. As our customers regard us as market leaders in plus size clothing, we should amplify this with realistic body shapes when promoting our products. The bigger sizes are a growing phenomenon, and we have spent a lot of time with the technical aspect of bigger clothing. Having expertise in developing these mannequins is essential for us to be confident in this move forward, I have found Planet Aspects to be knowledgeable with plenty of good ideas from their previous retail partners.

Statement from Gill Politis, Managing director for High and Mighty.
