EPOS
“Mobile point of sale (PoS) technology is an answer to this problem, as it can be deployed quickly and has a positive impact on retailers’ shop floor estate, offering space saving opportunity as well as reduced capital expenditure. It frees sales assistants up to move around the store and answer questions or move to areas that are busiest.”
One way to solve the problem of long queue times is to introduce mobile and tablet point of sale devices. Intelligent Point of Sale Limited recently designed a point of sale app called the iPos which has been created to work exclusively with the iPad. It has been cleared by Apple in June 2013 and is now available via the App store. Robin Knox, Director and Paul Walton CTO of Intelligent Point of Sale Limited designed the app and did so with the end user at the forefront of their priorities.
The iPad is now a popular device for use as an epos terminal across the hospitality and retail industries. Knox commented “We anticipate our new app being of interest to retailers, restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels or any SME with requirement for a touch screen epos terminal. In the past, we both worked in retail, bars and nightclubs where the till systems were not the most efficient, difficult to program and buggy; ask anyone working in hospitality and they will tell you how difficult things become if a till point crashes."
These are some of the reasons that Knox and Walton set out to design iPos with operators in mind. “Overwhelming
feedback from customers states that they think it is extremely easy to use. It will help our customers with stock control and up selling. In addition, our system will not need back office computers or servers as it will be based in the cloud and as a result will be less likely to crash” said Walton. Mobile and tablet checkouts are fast becoming the new way that transactions are carried out in store, and iPos is the first iPad based App of its kind to be developed in the UK. The system is cloud based but works even if the internet goes down. The company has already seen retailers and businesses switch over to their system from a traditional EPOS system as it is quick and easy to use, but also gives the consumer a speedy checkout process. Many stores are now seeing the need for a quicker transaction process, with time‐poor consumers hating to lose precious minutes of time queuing at the tills. I believe mobile and tablet point of sale could be the way forward for retailers and I can see a quicker, easier checkout process heading our way! 32
