EMBROIDERY Versatility is key says GS UK T

he world of embroidery is a very varied one and in GS UKʼs 20 plus years as a leading supplier of embroidery machines and consumables we have assisted in embroidering a wide variety of products.

In addition to the standard left chest and back of garment embroidery, it is also common place to see embroidery designs on ties, sleeves, cuffs, pockets, collars, socks and belts. Not to mention the numerous other items ranging from babywear, shoes, boots, bag flaps, greetings cards, to larger scale items such as interior design products, tablecloths, cot bumpers/quilts and flags.

When investing in machinery to cater for such varied end results a key question to consider would be – how versatile is a particular embroidery machine? Can it cope with all the demands you are likely to ask of it?

Most embroidery machines have traditionally catered for small scale work, however not all are capable of embroidering larger goods.

Embroidery machines such as the Merlin Pro GS-1501 single head machine can be fitted with an optional wide frame attachment which enables a sewing area of 1200mm x 350mm. This wide frame capability is ideal for those companies that wish to embroider larger items including, blankets, flags, car mats, quilts, curtains, tie backs, cushion covers and other general art projects.

If the frame is used in conjunction with GS UKʼs Filmoplast product then the items to be embroidered do not even need to

be ʻframedʼ up, instead then can be applied to the Filmoplast in the frame prior to stitching.

This is very useful when using bulky/thick products for example horse blankets, which cannot be framed in the traditional way.

The Merlin Pro will continue to stitch at 1200 stitches per minute when the wide frame is fitted.

The adaptive arm that is used for the frame can also be used with standard tubular frames reducing the need to constantly re- set the machine, making it truly versatile.

Logistics firm invests in ZSK embroidery centre O

ne of the world's leading supply chain logistics operators has made a significant investment in a state of the art ZSK embroidery centre – and created a new profit centre with serious potential for growth. Torque Logistics Limited, established in 1991, offers warehousing, distribution, and specialist garment services for several high-profile fashion clients. With 600 staff they have sites in London, Leeds,

Wigan and Bradford providing over 1.3 million square feet of warehousing. A number of factors lead to this new investment in embroidery, including an enquiry from one prestigious client regarding specialist embroidery services for a premiership football team. Introducing embroidery to the service portfolio soon became an obvious move. Neil Hewitt, processing manager at Torque, already knew Andrew Stocks at

Stocks Sewing Machines Ltd and was keen to review the suitability of the renowned ZSK machinery. Despite the existing trust and history with Stocks, Neil also considered the suitability of alternative suppliers and solutions, including lower cost machinery from a Chinese brand plus an American option. Following careful

consideration, Stocks and a ZSK 6-head machine were chosen as the best solution for Torqueʼs new venture. Neil was incredibly impressed with Stocks, in particular the way they made the transition from purchase to installation and operation quick, easy, and hassle-free.

“Andrew let us use a similar ZSK machine in his warehouse, so that our staff could get to grips with the machine and we could iron out potential problems before the equipment was even delivered to us. We were fully trained on operating the machine and up to speed with the user-friendly software so we could hit the ground running. The machine was

delivered at 9am Tuesday morning, and by Wednesday we were in production.” The Embroidery Centre is proving to be an asset to Torque, and Neil describes the ZSK machine as being ʻrobust, speedy, and accurateʼ. Torque envisages that embroidery will become an increasingly significant part of the business. Within the next 12 months they expect to be considering purchasing another machine, this time perhaps an 8-head ZSK. Neil acknowledges the major role that Stocks has had in making this move into embroidery an easy one. He says: “Stocks provide a great service, and the product knowledge is second to none. They are attentive and we always get a fast response from them. Their ZSK engineer knows the machines inside and out. Iʼd recommend Stocks to anyone.” ■ For more information call 0113 242 9378, email admin@stocks.co.uk, or visit www.stocks.co.uk or www.embroidery machinery.co.uk
