Editor’s Welcome
Annie Colquhoun-Denvers Dear Members,
The Chairman, this year writing the Foreword for 2011, left a vacancy on the usual Chairman’s Letter page. After some deep thought I queried if it might be appropriate for the Editor to write a few words, not in his place, but as a one off occasion alternative after 15 years or so of slavery to the annual club magazine.
Then the further period of deep thought over what actually to write! I realised that without the enthusiasm and support of the players, Club staff, caterers, photographers, members, advertisers, and friends of the Club there would be little, if anything, of signifi cance to make into an actual Yearbook.
I therefore wish to apologise personally to all those whom I have continually nagged, cajoled, pushed, pleaded and pressured into participating in the annual drive to put something together that is, we hope, worthwhile publishing. HPC was one of the fi rst clubs to start an annual ’glossy’ yearbook back in 1996 and now most clubs seem to have followed suit, so we must be doing something right!
It is wonderful to see that we have so many intrepid travellers which enables us to write about global polo - and it is fascinating to note that the net is spreading farther and wider with each coming year.
Also we are in the lucky position to have a number of Social Members who have put their love of the Club into action and become part of the team that works tirelessly and very quietly under the radar to get things achieved, in particular Nick Bottomley of Ocean Marketing and Dani Pasteau for all their support with producing the yearbook.
The Club itself seems to be busier than ever hosting, weddings, birthdays, charitable events or just plain down to earth ‘polo for polo’s sake’ as you will see on the following pages.
So, my sincere personal thanks to all those who have contributed and we hope that you will take great pleasure in this, the latest annual edition of the Yearbook, with all its ‘fun and frolics’.
