But this being a family affair, my wife Marie and the three little ones Nicholas, Max and Leopold are welcomed openly to the Club. I will never forget the season opening drinks where we met so many new faces, and where I was told (more than once) that I really wouldn’t go anywhere until I started to actually fall off the horse rather than trying to stay on! We spent more and more week-ends at the Club and mid-season went as far as to actually buy our fi rst pony, Celo, which excited the kids and they haven’t stopped talking about her every day since.
The season ended with us all from the instructional crowd playing our ‘season fi nale’ on the main fi eld
with commentator, actual spectators and family all cheering us on as we tried to put into action all we had learned. When we started it was raining but once the three teams had played each other and the winning team was picking up prizes and kisses, the sun was coming out and everyone got ready for the fancy dress, last game of the year...
I never would have thought any of this could happen so quickly. Now I cannot wait for the season to start again... to properly play Club chukkas, to learn to ride and play better and to spend more time with my new friends in my second year at Ham.
