On October 26, 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd H. Aronson took his final flight into the Wild Blue Yonder,departing from Reston Hospital Center, Virginia. AFalls Church resident for the past 45 years, he was born in Boston, MA on February 14, 1919 to William and Ruth Aronson and grew up in Norwalk, CT.Hegraduated from Parks Air College in St. Louis, MO and joined the Army Air Corp in 1941, which became the U.S. Air Force six years later.Asapilot, Col Aronson had an illustrious career that began in Asia, ferrying supplies in the China-Burma-India Theater.Heperformed as personal pilot to General ClaireChennault of the “Flying Tigers” fame. One of his exploits while flying the C-B-I was chronicled in (then) Lt Col Robert L. Scott’sbook, “God is My Co-Pilot.” He later flew the Berlin Airlift, and it was during this period in October of 1948 that he met and married in Frankfurt, Germany.Shortly afterward, he also participated in the Korean Airlift. Among his many awards and accomplishments, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Retired from the
Air Force in June 1961, Col Aronson pursued a second career as an Aerospace Education Specialist for NASA, wherehespent the following 22 years. He was an accomplished musician, having played both saxophone and clarinet in adance band in his college years; an avid photographer; and acasual golfer.Heissurvived by his wife of 62 years, Chris Aronson (nee Lea); one son, Laurence H. (Larry) Aronson; daughter-in-law Kathleen Aronson; three grandchildren: Steven L., Lucas H., and Laura E. Aronson; asister,Evelyn; and several nieces and nephews. JoAnne loved to garden, sew,decorate cakes, do crafts, birdwatch, and collect antiques. She passed her love of these things to her children and grandchildren.
JoAnne was astay at home mother until all of her children wereschool age. She worked for a short time as acaterer and cake decorator for The Bodega. She was the secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of Dale City from 1988 to 1996.
In February of 2001 JoAnne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’sdisease. She lost her battle with her disease on October 30, 2010.

JoAnne SanfordDavies Burhans was born on April 5, 1935 in Montrose Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Elbert and Hazel Davies. She attended the same school for all 12 years. She spent many summer days at her Aunt Ethel’scottage at Lake Shehawken. She played the oboe and was the center on her high school basketball team. She attended one semester of Business College.
She married William A. Burhans on September 7, 1957. During their marriage they moved nine times. She was the quintessential officer’swife, packing and unpacking with each set of orders, hosting teas, and keeping the home running thru crazy shifts and long deployments. She gave birth to six children in ten years. She was an excellent cook who always had dinner on the table at 6pm! She was very involved in all aspects of her children’s lives. She supported them in all of their pursuits; scouting, sports, music lessons, cake decorating lessons, and dance classes.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents Elbert Davies and Hazel Davies and her sister Jean Sanford. She is survived by her sisters Betty Jane Davies and Margaret Calby of Montrose PA.Her children; William Burhans Jr.(Sif) of Myrtle Beach SC, Jonathan Burhans (Roxanne) of ChristiansburgVA, Christina Burhans-Robinson (Joe) of Woodbridge VA,Elizabeth Olson (Steve) of Falls Church VA,Suzanne Kroh of Bentonville VA, and Tamara Lancaster (Reggie) of StaffordVA. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren; Sara Burhans, Jason Burhans, Nathan Burhans, Michael Vine, Dennis Vine (Ashley), Christopher Vine (Amber), Bridget Olson, Annabelle Olson, Thomas Olson, William Olson, Tamara Burhans, Alan Kroh, Trejon McGee, Cory McGee, and Kaia McGee. She also leaves behind 5great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.

On Wednesday,October 27, 2010, Regina succumbed to the effects of aheart attack at Sibley Memorial Hospital, attributable to her long struggle with diabetes.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Sims Newberry; two children, James Milton Newberry and Diane Newberry Lott; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Milton Newberry (age 17), Chester Trent Lott, III (age 12), and Lucie Sims Lott (age 9).
Regina was born in Oklahoma, July 6, 1936. Her parents were Charles C.K.T.Saffa and the former Lucille Jabour.She married her husband of 50 years,October 9, 1960 and lived the life of an Army wife for 26 years,living in Oklahoma, California, Kansas,Virginia, Missouri, and in Europe twice.Living in McLean since 1986, she was active in the Women’sClub of McLean and in the International outreach sponsored by the Army Officers’ Wives’ Club, GreaterWashington Area (AOWCGWA).
She benefited from being amember of alarge family,having two sisters,Beverly S. Stapleton and Charlene S. Wagner,and abrother,Charles S. Saffa. She had four nieces and nephews, Michael Stapleton, Pati Stapleton, TomStapleton, Susie Simon, Carlton Saffa and Rachel Selman. She was also fortunate to have many grand nieces and nephews.
Regina provided the strong glue that sustained and invigorated her family.Her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews all benefited from her affection and compassion. Her proudest legacy is aloving extended family.
