THE WAILERS COME TO LONDON


The Wailers were the original backing band of the most famous reggae artist to grace this world, Bob Marley. This year they are celebrating their individual success for their 40th anniversary as the worlds most important and recognised reggae band in the world.


First and foremost what inspired you to want to tell the story of ‘Jamaica’s First Super Group’? As a 20th Century world icon Bob Marley and his music has been brought to the world’s attention, however, in contrast not enough recognition and acknowledgement is given to the many musical contribu- tors who helped shaped the sound that is known and still loved around the world today. Salute to The Wailers is our way of trying to address that situation.


Do you think Marley’s positive message is still as relevant to the youth as it once was? His message is even more relevant today, poor people are still hungry, politicians are still lying, many young people can see this and therefore identify with his call to remain conscious. Bob spoke about real situa- tions to which normal peo- ple could relate.


Can you give us a quick low-down on some of the raw talent you’re set to showcase at the tribute? This year we have kept the fans favourites, such as Mr Alexander and Caspian. New to the line-up is 14yr old sen- sation Mizz Camara, who is destined for big things. There are also some surprise spe- cial guest artists.
