FESTIVALS23 READING FESTIVAL 2010

Ankle-deep in mud, torrential rain and squeezing into a tent - there is only one occasion when it’s OK to spend your weekend like this, and it’s the one and only Reading Festival!

As a first timer at Reading, I definite- ly wasn’t disappointed. The festival lived up to its reputation of being muddy, crazy and most importantly, filled with great music. ‘To kick start the weekend i dragged myself out of the mud and went to see to see Billy Talent, Mumford and Sons, Lost Prophets and Biffy Clyro - just an average Friday afternoon! The only let-down came when Guns N’ Roses left us standing around for an hour in the cold, and when they finally showed up (to the unhappy crowd’s chants of “We want Slash!!”), there set was a disappointment... Nevertheless, we spent the night partying to make up for it - who knew getting drunk in the mud would be so much fun?! Saturday brought much more musi- cal heaven with the likes of The Libertines, Arcade Fire, Mystery Jets and 3OH!3 all playing sets

which got the crowd going crazy! Saturday’s highlights however had to be Dizzee Rascal, Rotating Leslie and Atari Teenage Riot. You may think this is a crazy mix of music but that is exactly what a festival like this is all about - different music bring- ing everyone together in a fun but somewhat messy musical love-out! Saturday night brought more fun as we met our neighbours - one of whom included a South African wearing hot pink jeans who enjoyed sticking his hands into open fire... Sunday was definitely the day to rock out and make it a memorable last day. Amongst the hot line-up were Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Klaxons, Roots Manuva, Magnetic Man and Blink 182 who left all 90,000 ravers with complete musical satisfaction - and the night went out with a bang - quite liter- ally with some minor explosions around camp.... We won’t tell if you don’t!

TOP FESTIVAL TIPS!

Always come prepared!! Top things to bring: wellies, sun cream, chairs and beer. Go and see at least one artist that you have never seen before, you’re bound to discover someone you’ll want to go and see again - I know I did! Go with the flow! You never know who you’re going to meet, carry a chair and a beer with you wherever you go and get ready to settle round a campfire!

RAVE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Hell yeah! The Guestlist Network had another mad weekend. We took to the underground vibes and this time we chose a real, insane, crazy and wild Squat Party in the remote location of Tot- tenham. In the unused open- plan office complex, fil- ing cabinets and desks had been pushed aside, boxes, folders had been trashed and coat hang- ers were part of the rough scenery! The im- pressive sound systems had been rigged up on two floors of pound-

ing genres from Hard Techno to Drum & Bass passing through some pumping and astonish- ing Hard Style vibes. Ravers were going mad to the inspirational sounds of the under- ground, and some were wanting to become a part of the music so much so that they were even pushing their heads into the 1000 watt speakers. After solidly dancing for hours The Guestlist Net- work were all partied out and were ready to reap- pear to the cold light of a new day!
