THE GUESTLIST NETWORK | JULY 2010
TRAVEL17 Get Sonar On Your Radar
The height of the season is upon us and it seems like there are thousands of festivals to choose from. This year TGN took our camera crew and ventured to sunny Barcelona for the world´s foremost electronic music festival.
For years I’d heard about this Sonar, this electronic music festival full of delights. Despite my love for music I’d never ventured to Barcelona.
This year was different. I heard Moodymann was playing. For those who didn’t know The Guestlist Net- work have been on the hunt for a live set from Moodymann for quite a while, and we weren’t going to miss this opportunity!! We packed our bags and headed to Barcelona.
Now, nobody told me you can smoke weed in Barcelona – everywhere - and it’s chilledl! It’s fine to grow two plants in your house and also to have a couple of grams on you. I fell in love with Barcelona. The next five days of Sonar just turned into utter madness. From day one Pete Tong, Round table nights, Professor Green in the blazing sun, getting extremely intoxicated….then heading to Moon Harbor records at the famous City Hall club where we listened to Mat- thias Tanzmann and Paco Osuna and then onto Discotheque - a mas- sive start to the weekend.
Friday was a blur of partying in the sunshine with thousands of interna- tional, super-bubbly people. Sonar night. It can only be de- scribed as an air craft hanger with
an open air craft hanger outside, with a stupid amount of people in- side brucking out to the Sugar Hill Gang. Whilst outside, you would have found us going nuts to Richie Hawtin, 2ManyDJs and then Booka Shade as the sun came up (first un- forgettable moment).
With next to no sleep, we woke up on Saturday and got straight to work where we finally caught Moodymann and he made this birthday one I am never going to forget. Don’t know if it was Moodymann, the chicks, the sun or the year 2000 Don Perignon but on this day I felt the essence of Sonar and Barcelona.
That night it was off to Circoloco, where we met up with DJ Wild who tore the place down. Partied till the early morning and after Sunday morning on the beach we could hardly sip a sangria before heading off to Secret Sundaze for my favou- rite party of the year so far. Next stop, Secret Sundaze at La Terrazza in Barcelona on 22th of August.
I finished the trip with nothing less than a rave at a beach club. Start- ing in the sun and ending in the early hours. Sonar... and Barcelona…. we love you!! We’re coming back. Hard. Checkout the YouTube video.
