THE GUESTLIST NETWORK | JULY 2010

Couture on Crack

Thank you world for ex- posing our vain brains and shal-

low souls to the visually intriguing display of human art we call Lady Gaga. She is an era, a culture and a lifestyle of wacky wonderfulness and to be honest a breath of fresh air and I am getting seriously sick of melon-like breasts and daily up- dates of how much each pop prin- cess weighs spreading all over the corner shop shelves. “Be Different” seems to be this generation’s how- to-live motto and Gaga is the mes- siah for today’s youth culture. But where there is inspiration, there is art form, and where does she get this crazy shit from? The Guestlist Network team have done their re- search and here’s a little peek into the crazy, impractical ridiculous- ness of the world of Couture. Cou-

ture is a fusion of art and fashion which the rare breed of celebrity sometimes embrace. It gives de- signers such as Phillip Treacy and Karl Lagerfeld the opportunity to get those creative juices flowing and gives us a show like we have never seen before!

Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen: Butterfly hat.

Lady Gaga: Xmas fairy.

GUESTLIST SHOOTS YOU! Andrea Ruzza Lowri

LONGCHAMP TOTE BAGS the much-coveted ‘Le Pliage’ model is overpriced, pocket- less and more “LeSportSac” than THE sac. They may be super durable, waterproof AND (this is pretty good…) if the corners or handles start to wear, Longchamp will repair them for free; but seeing them all day long just makes us think, well, “conformity”….

BRETON Nautical themes are big every year, but is no-one else getting rather dizzy looking at jailbird stripes all over the shop?

HEELED CLOGS Pourquoi, mon amie? A classic example of how some things that come around again aren’t necessarily good.

DOUBLE DENIM the matching jacket-and-jeans combo (DD) is NEVER ac- ceptable no matter how many fashion glossies say otherwise. We can do without the prison blues/Happy Days look thank you.

WRIST-CANDY the times-they-a-changin’. No- one ACTUALLY needs a watch now, but fashion’s strongpoint has never really been about prac- ticalities has it. The watch as a unisex bracelet/accessory, spar- kling impressionably of a clever marriage between style and time- keeping function, whilst being bold and brash is very à-la-mode ce moment.

ROMPERS These short-1-pieces are great as casual wear, flattering and com- fortable – something you always want in the middle of summer! Take a cue from V V Brown who dons the ultra feminine, retro look perfectly in her video Shark in the Water.

FLESH-TONED HEELS make like Jessica Alba and play up that fabulous new summer dress by sticking to a good nude/neu- tral shoe– it’ll make your legs look miles longer…..

CLAM-DIGGERS longer than shorts but not as long as trousers, these are a timeless wardrobe phenomenon just per- fect for those balmy summer cycle rides ‘cos the bottom ain’t gonna get caught in the chain or crank. Sweet.
