I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes. I had one thousand and sixty.
Yukka
Until the early noughties Street wear had been an unknown quantity. A few labels were starting a network of independent stores. A culture was forged from sparse beginnings and started to blow up across the globe.
It was due to stores such as Yukka pushing the envelope and sourcing premium labels to be bought by the public that really gave the movement strength.
Yukka.co.uk is Europe’s largest online street-wear retailer and it was started at the age of twenty one by Robby Sur, who was armed with nothing more than passion and belief.
A favourite of Mishka, Craze, Alix Perez & Skream et al. Crooks & Castles is in stock on the website and enjoying much success due to artists such as Jay Z rocking the classic ‘Medusa’ T-Shirt, and of course the JiggaMans own label RocaWear is in attendance. There are on key trends available for men including Varsity jackets, Bobble hats, brightly coloured watches from Yukka and sunglasses aplenty. Robby comments “Streetwear is creativity at its best” and the range in stock more than proves this.
BRINGIN’ IT BACK!
With our eyes pierced to her lat- est music video, ‘Why don’t you love me?’ I’m hoping it wasn’t just me creepily thinking, ‘Oh we do Beyonce...we do.’ Although usu- ally fixated on all the B’s about her, the thing that caught my attention was the 50’s vintage pin up theme throughout the video. Ca$h Money
Money is a London based clothing brand, founded by Melvyn de Villiers and Nick Cordell in 2000.
Melvyn a former screen printer aimed to create a dynamic label for a new generation. Money clothing rapidly became recognisable for its bold use of colour, humorous slogans, and the now famous ‘King Ape’ logo. For Autumn/Winter 2010, the Money collection is divided into four key groups: Collegiate, Gold/ Diamante, Sport/Pop, and Trad. The Collegiate section has an autumnal palette of grey, navy, brick, and grape. Thick cable knits and quilted outerwear all contribute to a preppy feel. Sport/pop offers poppy, acid brights, with vibrant
slogan tees and colourful sweat- shirting in contrasting colours. The Gold/Diamante section has a more exuberant feel, with metallic foil logos and diamante embellished tees. Finally, the Trad group carries a more classic offering, with Money’s homage to the piquet polo. Denims for the season include the Colombian jean, a loose fit with a genuine Colombian peso adorning the rear pocket; and Union Jack printed jeans. Bags come in soft leather and are lined with real dollar bills; styles include bowling bags, laptop cases, and holdalls.
