center of attention, the really cool piece to the story is the people who built it, Chris and Rebecca Canterbury of Boxer Metal. Chris and Rebecca have been long time supporters of the MOA. Chris has a five digit member number that dates back to the late 80s. He has recruited members, adver- tised in the Owners News, written several articles and attended all the rallies. Chris jumped at the chance to build the
Custom. He immediately made a laundry list of things he would like to do to the bike and pieces that he wanted to build. Each day there was a new idea for something dif- ferent and unique that could be done. Truth be told, the bike took about six months lon- ger than planned because of the detail and painstaking effort that went into building it. But the effort didn’t stop with the build of the motorcycle. Chris arranged for the
photos that graced the cover of the Owners News in June. He entered the motorcycle in The One Motorcycle Show in Portland to gain extra exposure for the Foundation, and he even helped arrange the transportation to the Rally in Billings. And, hat’s off to Rebecca who rode their sidecar from Northern California to Billings and then insisted that she be allowed to clean the R nineT before the show opened in Billings! When I spoke to Chris and Rebecca at
the Rally, the pride they both felt for the R nineT was obvious. They undoubtedly left pieces of their hearts in the build. I asked Chris what was special about this bike, and he simply said, “It’s for a good cause.” A very humble answer on behalf of two people who have given more than a lit- tle bit of themselves to the MOA. A special shout-out to Dave O’Leary,
another MOA member that made the R nineT possible. Dave just picked up a new S 1000 XR, and Billings was his first Rally! He volunteered to bring the R nineT from Chico to Billings. Dave answered the call at the last minute and didn’t ask for anything in return. Thanks, Dave – and, thanks for being a member. If you haven’t recognized the importance
of these individual efforts, Chris, Rebecca and Dave aren’t just supporting the MOA Foundation. They are actually saving lives. The proceeds from the R nineT raffle fund motorcycle training programs like the Cor- nerspin School at Virginia International Raceway this month! And the Paul B. Scholarship Fund provides $250 scholar- ships to MOA members who want to attend. Ultimately, these efforts protect the lives of BMW riders everywhere. If you are interested in the Cornerspin
