President’s Message Election Congratulations By Dan Butts W
ell, we finally got through the elections and the New Year is here. I was pleased with the overall outcome of the many races and offer my congratulations to all the winners. Now it’s time for all of us to stay involved and hold the individuals elected accountable. We need to ensure that those elected keep their campaign promises and follow through with our wishes. As most of you know, the State Legislature meets every two years and this January the new session will start at the Capitol. TSRA Legislative Director Alice Tripp has been working hard to keep us informed on all the bills that may impact our Second Amendment rights. These efforts will continue throughout the session as we track the bills (good and bad) through the legislative process. “Thanks” in advance to Alice and the Legislative
Committee for the many hours of hard work during the upcoming session. My time as president of the Texas State Rifle Association will soon be over. I have enjoyed my time as a TSRA officer and the last two years as president. It has been a pleasure to serve the members of the association. The new slate of officers will take over at the upcoming annual meeting. TSRA Executive Director Doug DuBois Jr. and the office staff are working hard to get everything finalized for our meeting which will take place in Round Rock, Texas, on Feb. 24-25, 2017.
Many of you have no idea what is involved in being the president of the Texas State Rifle Association. I will not explain all the duties of the office, however, I will tell you each person who agrees to serve the TSRA as an officer knows that they have
committed to 10 years of service to the association. I would like to congratulate and thank all the upcoming TSRA officers for their dedication and service. A special thanks to our current
First Vice President, Dorcia Meador who will soon be elected as our president. Dorcia when elected will become the first female president of the Texas State Rifle Association. I cannot think of anyone who is better prepared to serve our association and take it up to its 100th birthday. Congratulations, Dorcia and good luck.
We’re Building a Long-Lasting Legacy for Texas Gun Owners One Brick at a Time
Thanks to a generous gift from the William T. Clarke, Jr. Estate, the Texas State Rifle Association has developed the “Bull & Bricks Building Campaign.” This campaign will help us create the Donor Brick Plaza at the TSRA Headquarters in Austin with a Legacy Snortin’ Bull as the center piece. Funds raised by this campaign will be used to pay off the mortgage on the TSRA Headquarters and also create a fund to help with costs associated with building maintenance.
Members may purchase bricks to honor TSRA and/or to memorialize a loved one who strongly believed in the Second Amendment. Members may order their brick online at:

The bricks come in either 4X4 or 8X8 and have the option of including one of the twenty-five pre-selected clipart pieces or a corporate logo.
