GIRL POWER Continued from page 18

embraced Faith with open arms. Practicing with the all-women gun club provided Faith with additional confidence and a camaraderie that she had not experienced before. She was now a part of something bigger, and that not only encouraged her progression in the shooting sports but actively supported those efforts. With several matches under her belt and months of practice

with the Sure Shots, Faith expressed a more serious interest in competitive shooting to Coach Niki. Through her connections in the industry as the founder of the Austin Sure Shots and Sure Shots Magazine, Niki was able to line up a few sponsors to help Faith in her journey. The fact that companies well-known to Faith were willing to support her meant a lot. She was flattered and humbled by the experience and understood that moving forward, she had to demonstrate a level of professionalism and sportsmanship that was expected with sponsorship. At the end of May, Faith was unable to attend one of her regular matches due to a school trip. Anthony was surprised when Jenna, typically the more-reserved and cautious one, asked him if she could go. All the excitement surrounding her sister Faith had started to pique her interest. Of course, Anthony welcomed the opportunity and agreed to take her. While at the match, Jenna shot with Vanessa and had a blast. On the way home from the match, Jenna asked if she could start going to Sure Shots practice with Faith. The following Wednesday Jenna attended practice, met Coach Niki and the other coaches, and has been a regular participant ever since. Soon after, Jenna followed in Faith’s footsteps and became an official junior competitive shooter.

Anthony thought the girls’ experience and personal growth with competitive shooting should be a documented journey. He started a Facebook page to give the girls a medium to communicate with their fans and promote their sponsors. Shortly after its creation, the girls were making a variety of videos to include match highlights, gunsmithing, announcements
