filed language similar to SB 16. Rep. Joe Moody (D-El Paso) filed language which would lower the fee for a LTC but requires the funds to go to safety training and to require DPS to create a gun safety course. This smacks of Texas Gun Sense. We found TGS background online and John T. Woods is listed as a founding member. You might recall John Woods came to UT from Virginia Tech. He had once dated a girl who was killed in the Virginia Tech massacre and when he came to Texas chose to be the anti-gun organizer against campus carry. He was at UT attending graduate school. I can still hear Hillary in my head saying, “I support the Second Amendment but….” TGS supports the Second Amendment but supports “common sense gun legislation”. Rep. Anchia (D-Dallas) has pre-filed a bill to close that mythical gun show loophole. Does any TSRA member believe there is a loophole? We know both FFLs and the occasional private seller have serious responsibilities under federal law regarding who they sell to.
An often used anti-gun marketing term? “74 percent of NRA members support background checks at gun shows” Consider NRA has never and would never do such as survey? Consider your contact information with NRA as with TSRA is absolutely confidential and no one has access to information to conduct such a survey.
Do you suppose if you tell a lie often enough and with enough conviction, is it still a lie? All things are marketing.
Your gifts to the TSRA PAC made a huge difference during the 2016 campaign year. Many of you added a PAC donation when you renewed, some members give regularly by credit card. That’s impressive! I think the most exciting PAC donation has been from private gun collections. Yes, we’re glad to take your extra deer rifle. We sell your gungift through a local retail outlet and funds go directly into the PAC and are reported to the Texas Ethics Commission.
During the recent holiday season, the PAC held its first membership drive to increase TSRA’s membership in preparation for the 2017 Legislative Session. If money is the currency for the campaign season, the number of TSRA members is the currency during session.
Please urge your friends to join! Tell them what we do! We are strong when we pull together. The only way we will ever lose will be if we fight among ourselves and dilute our power. I also need to remind you to sign up for email alerts. If we
don’t have your permission to send you email, if we can’t find you to make a phone call or ask for help with witnesses, well you get the picture. We don’t abuse you with mail and we don’t abuse you with email.
