UTAS

www.utas-usa.com The shotgun area during Industry Day at the Range is always entertaining when firing Law Enforcement style shotguns instead of over/under doubles with duck hunting scenes engraved on their sides. The new UT-X semi-auto, AR-15 style 12-gauge shotgun was su- premely entertaining as orange clays were blasted out of the air. Who knew an AR’s pistol grip and telescoping stock worked so well on aerial moving targets? The UT-X uses an eight-shot box magazine in an otherwise standard- feeling AR-15 type of weapon. No need to retrain offi cers with a different kind of weapon; the UT-X operates just like an issued AR-15.

Walther

www.waltherarms.com The excellent PPQ pistol is now cham- bered in 45 ACP. The grip frame keeps the same dimensions as the 9mm and 40 S&W, with only the slide being slightly bigger to make room for the fat 45 ACP cartridges. The PPQ’s outstanding trig- ger remains on Walther’s fi rst 45-caliber caliber fi rearm. A new version of the Walther PPS is also available, properly termed the M2. It has a new (and very ergonomically comfortable) grip along with a proper American-style button magazine re- lease. The accuracy and reliability of the PPS are intact, as are the subcompact and thin design of this pistol chambered for either 9mm or 40 S&W.

Winchester Ammunition www.winchester.com Winchester Ammunition introduced a new 9mm practice round (115-grain FMJ) in a coated steel case. Use of the steel case is purported to not cause any premature wear on fi rearms according to the company’s testing. The use of steel instead of brass keeps the cost of a box of cartridges lower. Lower cost could mean more practice.

Windham Weaponry

www.windhamweaponry.com This AR-15 pattern maker has a new rifl e called the MCS (Multi-Caliber System) that is licensed from MGI (maker of the multi-caliber Hydra). This system is truly genuinely different from all the other AR-15s on the market. A quick-change barrel, bolt, and magazine well allow one serial numbered rifl e to fi re just about any caliber desired. 5.56mm NATO, 7.62x39mm, 9mm, 45 ACP, and just about any other caliber upper you wish to install will fi re reliably and accurately.

Steve Tracy is a 27-year police veteran with 25 years experience as a fi rearms instructor. He is also an instructor for tactical rifl es, use of force, less-than-lethal force and scenario- based training. He can be reached at steventracy@hendonpub.com.
