tically moot. So Martinez found a solution.

“I found Impact Power Technologies (IPT) and decided to test their batter- ies, along with a few other companies. I field tested them myself, as well as assigning them to our task force detec- tive who works extremely long hours,” Martinez said. “We quickly deter- mined the batteries from IPT lasted about a day and a half longer and they still were able to recharge quickly.” Impact Power Technologies propri- etary Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion chemistries, combined with their exclusive Battery Management Sys- tem (BMS), guarantee the maximum runtime, recharges, and lifespan—out- performing all other batteries on the market—earning them the 2015 Com- munications Solutions Product of the

Year Award, as well as the #1 Product on the ‘Best of IACP’ list.

Martinez made the recommenda- tion to his Captain to convert to IPT, contingent on three things: 1) The bat- teries must cost the same or less than the OEMs; 2) They must come affixed with a city logo label; and 3) They must deliver approximately 260 bat- teries and 130 chargers in bulk so they could be immediately deployed to all sworn personnel, as well as other staff who are assigned to the field. Martinez stated, “With the savings from IPT as compared to the other vendors we re- searched, we were able to buy double the number of batteries and 50 percent more chargers. The batteries lasted longer, so we got more performance for the money, too.”

Murrieta PD officers have found

they no longer need to swap out bat- teries until the end of their second day’s shift. As a result of this success, Martinez has referred IPT to other law enforcement agencies including the Indio Police Department, Hemet PD, and Riverside Sheriff’s Department. All have either purchased or are in the process of purchasing IPT batteries and chargers as well.

Indio Police Department is a perfect example of how agencies rely on their peers for guidance. Lori Brown, the Communications Supervisor for Indio PD, was on the verge of converting to IPT’s batteries for their Motorola XTS 2500 radios, but was still somewhat hesitant about this new technology. As with many agencies, the general rule was to stick with the original manufac- turer’s accessories. Brown reached out
