HERE: A Father’s Heart

A FATHER WILL DO ALL HE CAN TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE HIS SON OR DAUGHTER THRIVES. IT IS HERE I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO BRAD DESJARDIN (Father of alumnus Ryan DesJardin)

Here can be defined as a place or position; an exclamation of one's presence. Brad was placed in a role to shepherd his son well and

positioned to make a significant impact on his life. As a father he is present.

Brad and Denyse moved from the Bay Area to the Sacramento Region 29 years ago with the hope of finding an affordable place to live and a family-friendly environment. They found that here in the Sacramento area. Since their move, they launched DesCor Builders which has made a significant impact on our region. Many of the buildings and churches we drive by have been constructed by DesCor; churches like The Life Center in Fair Oaks and businesses like Oracle just down the road from Jessup.

In building Oracle in the early 2000s, Brad’s company also purchased furniture from the Herman Miller factory, which just so happens to be Jessup today. It is here Brad’s excitement for Christ-centered education in the region began. Just a few years later, with a huge smile on his face, Brad walked on campus with Ryan for the first time. Perfectly positioned in God’s grace, William Jessup University opened its doors just down the road from Oracle in the old furniture plant he frequented.

“When your son or daughter leaves home, as a father, your hope is that they find a place where they can learn, experience community, create relationships and enjoy themselves in the process. College is also a time when you can create a vision for the future. Jessup has delivered on all counts!... In John 14:6, Jesus says that He is the way the truth and the life. College is a place where students should learn the way things work, the truth about our world and universe, and how to live their lives. I believe that Jesus, as the Word, is the source and basis of all truth and understanding. In my opinion, you cannot overlook ‘the source’ and gain full understanding. Therefore, as Christians, we can claim all truth in the name of Christ and we need a place in our region that allows the entire truth to be taught,” Brad stated.

The reason Brad and Denyse are President’s Circle members today is because they saw firsthand the impact Jessup has had on their family. “I love how Jessup is not isolated to the Rocklin campus but is visible throughout the community. I would love to see Jessup’s influence grow even greater by adding students and majors. As I get to know more about Jessup and its impact on its students, the world, our local area, my church and my family, my heart for the University grows daily. I am happy that Denyse and I are getting involved in a bigger way.”
