Te ceremony also shared the rich history of the department and the impact it brings locally and beyond as graduates are teaching in classrooms throughout the nation and globally including China, India, Egypt and Cambodia. “Te school is innovative, entrepreneurial and globally conscious in addition to providing growing recognition among its esteemed faculty and alumni,” Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dennis Jameson said as he installed Gillespie. Joining Jessup in 2007, Gillespie has been instrumental in creating an exceptional and collaborative community of faculty, students and alumni. Most recently he helped launch the school’s single subject credentialing programs, the Master of Arts in Teaching, and is continuing to develop the school’s projected online graduate program, Master of Arts in Education and a variety of regional professional development opportunities.
Dean Gillespie’s career spans more than 37 years in the field of education. His experience includes teaching the social sciences, alternative education and special education, as well as serving as an administrator at elementary and secondary schools and college and university levels.
Additionally, his work at the county office of education and serving on a variety of boards has afforded an expansive knowledge and understanding of student learning and organizational systems.
Gillespie holds a graduate degree from the University of San Francisco in Educational and Organizational Leadership and
undergraduate degree from San Jose State University as well as multiple Life Teaching and Administrative Credentials.
“Teaching is a gift and service to others,” Gillespie said and later referenced the inspiration from which he begins many of the courses he teaches with a famous quote by astronaut and teacher Christa McAuliffe, “I touch the future. I teach.”
Following the ribbon cutting, attendees toured the new faculty offices within the department followed by a brief reception providing further information about the school and its offerings.
Other areas of emphasis for the School of Education include research and professional development. Research projects focus on topics such as school dropout prevention, literacy, common core implementation, college and career readiness, character development and leadership.
Professional development opportunities for students include utilizing a cohort model; workshops, conferences and expositions including STEM related activities. During the past three years, the school has spearheaded three annual Education Conferences, a conference designed to address the needs of K-12 teachers and those preparing to be teachers. In addition, this marks the fifth year for the STEM Expo Conference, designed for 3-12 grade students to explore areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Te Expo is the official Placer County affiliate for the California State Science Fair.

LIBERTY’S SECRETS
William Jessup University’s Public Policy Institute fellow Joshua Charles has a new book entitled, Liberty’s Secrets: Te Lost Wisdom of America’s Founders.
In his latest work, Charles seeks to make the Founders of our great nation more accessible to readers by exposing them to the actual words they left us concerning topics as varied as limited government, education, morality, religion, and numerous others. Charles utilizes hundreds of footnotes, all to original sources, and explains how the Founders remain stunningly and sometimes eerily relevant to today.
“Many Americans confine the works of our Founders to the ‘irrelevant’ and ‘old- fashioned’ basket and don’t recognize just how relevant their words continue to be for our society today,” Charles explained. “Te goal of this book is to open people’s eyes to those words, many of which I guarantee you they have never heard about, that our Founders left behind, and hopefully both educate and inspire them to become better, more informed citizens. Nothing less will allow us to continue this noble experiment in self-government called the United States.”
Te book is currently available on Amazon and due in bookstores July 4.
