here are many ways to become a winner in the aerospace machining sweepstakes that will be running well into the next decade. In addition to the proper certifi cations, shops must be committed to quality and adopt advanced competitive machining strategies based on the latest available technology including machines, cutting tools, workholding, and quality monitoring systems. In general, shops can go a couple of different ways. They can muddle through, relying on legacy equipment that has earned its keep and long been paid for, or they can invest in the latest advanced technology. The latter approach enables shops to gain access not only to “what’s new and bet- ter” in machine technology but also to the support available from machine builders and their third-party partners. Here’s how some companies are positioning themselves to cash in big.
