AERODEF 2016 PREVIEW

Fluid Dispensing Solutions Graco Inc. experts will be on hand at AeroDef 2016 to assist customers with a wide range of fl uid dispensing solutions, from the simplest how-to question to the most complex inte- gration challenge. The company will also display aerospace

Flex Shafts Flexible shafts are an effective and cost-effi cient way to transmit rotary motion. Used currently in the Mars Rover, Suhner’s fl exible shafts are made with wire spiraled tightly around a central wire. With each layer, the diameter of the shaft increases, along with the torque it can transmit. Com- pared to a pull cable or a wire rope, where a bundle of wires

manufacturing equipment such as the compact, bench-top Graco PR70 and the advanced, closed-loop technology Pre- cise Continuous Flow (PCF) Meter and Dispense Systems. Graco Inc. Web site: www.graco.com

Direct Metal Laser Sintering This rapid manu- facturer of custom prototypes and low-volume produc- tion parts will feature its direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) service at AeroDef 2016. This 3D print- ing process for metal parts uses a variety of alloys, allowing for

fully functional prototypes and end-use parts to be built out of the same material as production components. Since the components are built layer by layer, it is possible to design internal features and passages that could not be cast or otherwise machined. The company’s DMLS process delivers fully dense metal parts in seven days or less. Proto Labs

The shafts are able to handle speeds up to 50,000 rpm with high accuracy, for applications rang- ing from printing presses and remote control, valve control to speedometers and power seat actuation.
