big process disruption as well. Vickers tracks it according to “broken tools per 10,000 pieces” and defi nes a broken tool as one that is chipped, cracked, or worn to a point that it negatively af- fects part surface fi nish. Prior to Seco, broken tool amounts ranged around 4.5, but that has since dropped to only 1.6 per 10,000. Besides cutters, Vickers relied on Seco to

improve its drilling operations. The shop was using several different brands and various diameters, then standardized the diameters according to what part tolerances would allow. By doing so, the shop reduced its drill inventory from 40 different items down to only 10. Plus, switching to Seco provided the ease of working with one supplier. “In fact, over the past 18 months, we have
