on the early trips, along with the Peter Witt. The original PCCs vanished, but soon rebuilt PCC-2s from Brookville were being prepared for service on restored Route 15 on Girard Avenue. The PCC-2s arrived a couple of years before the trackwork was ready, so the chapter was able to provide some of the first public trips on the rebuilt cars, using other streetcar routes in the city. Those early days also provided some


of the best trackage for streetcar char- ters. What was generally regarded as the longest streetcar line in the world,


SEPTA’s Route 23 that started just outside the Philadelphia city limits in Chestnut Hill and wandered over 12 miles to the area near the sports complex in South Philly, was “tempo- rarily bussed” by SEPTA, but the track was intact and the wire energized, allow- ing for our charters to be the only cars using the line. Route 56 on Erie Avenue in northern Philadelphia was similarly “temporarily bussed,” as was the afore- mentioned Route 15. Alas, streetcars never returned to Routes 23 and 56, and our charters were probably the last
