former San Diego & Arizona Eastern, little progress has been made toward that goal. After declaring bankrupt- cy in October 2016, Pacific Imperial is selling its assets including the operat- ing agreement for the Desert Line from milepost 59.6 at the Mexican border in Division, Calif., 70 miles east to milepost 130 in Plaster City. Baja California Rail Road, Inc., which currently operates the portion of the line in Mexico, has offered to purchase those rights through a subsidiary, International Transporta- tion Association. An initial bid of $3.8 million is subject to review at an upcom- ing assets sale hearing.

Yreka Western

On December 30, 2016, California’s 8.8-mile Yreka Western Railroad was

acquired by Railmark Holdings, Inc. The line has been out of service the last few years. Railmark says it plans aggres- sive industrial development. Railmark is known for

transloading, intermodal

and rail-car mechanical services. In the past the line hauled wood chips, forest products and propane.

Mississippian

The Itawamba County Railroad Authority has filed to acquire from the Itawamba County Port Commission extending from milepost 0.0 in Amory to milepost 25.0 in Fulton, Mississippi commonly referred to as the “Mississip- pian Railway,” for a total distance of 25 route miles. The Itawamba County Port Commission acquired the line on August 12, 2013. Itawamba Mississippian

Railway, LLC (“IMR”) will lease and operate the Line once ICRA acquires the Mississippian Railway.

New Power to Hoosier Southern

The Hoosier Southern Railroad is owned by the Perry County Port Author- ity and connects the Ohio River at Cannelton (Tell City Port) to Lincoln City, Ind., and the mainline of CSX. For many years this railroad operated vintage GP-type locomotives. In Febru- ary, Larry’s Truck & Electric shipped fully painted Hoosier Southern GP15-1s 458 and 459 to the railroad. No plans have been indicated to replace the current power with these units.

Lake State Railway Celebrates 25 Years

To mark its 25th anniversary of operation, Michigan’s Lake State Railway applied a special commemorative paint scheme to GP40-3 4325 (formerly No. 1169, built as B&O 3741 in 1970). Rebuilt by Metro East Industries in East St. Louis, the new control system allows this unit to be set up as a road-slug mother as needed. Founded in 1992, LSRC operates nearly 300 miles across the state of Michigan.

Changing Times on Georgia Northeastern

Motive power changes on Georgia Northeastern Railroad are in evidence at Elizabeth (Marietta). Three new units — GP38-3 3804 (ex-SP GP40), GP38-3 3805 (ex-IC GP38AC), and GP38-2 3810 (ex- L&N GP38AC) — hailing from the Columbia & Cowlitz Railroad out of Washington state are painted in the new Patriot Rail corporate scheme. Founded in 1987, the railroad was sold to an investment group in 2015. Patriot Rail assumed day-to-day operations in 2016.
