BURLINGTON ST. ALBANS
HOOSICK JCT.
West of the Border The front end of a westbound Pan Am Southern freight traverses the Hoosic River bridge at Hoosick Junction N.Y., the site of the interchange with Vermont Railway. Leading the consist are MEC 608 and MEC 3400, SD40-2s in Pan Am paint, followed by GP40s Boston & Maine 335 and Maine Central 319 in Guilford attire. The string of tank cars nicely matches those seen at the Omya plant in Florence and throughout the VTR system. PAS traverses the extreme southwestern corner of Vermont between Hoosick, N.Y., and Williamstown Mass., thus meriting inclusion as a Vermont railroad. May 18, 2016.
St. Albans Roundhouse and Turntable St. Albans has long been an important interchange, and a traditional railroad town. Even today, NECR maintains its main offi ce, engine facilities, and a large roundhouse at this small northern Vermont city. From 800 feet overhead we see three coupled yellow SD40s (2716, 2714, and 721), as well as a freshly painted Jordan plow and spreader. Partially hidden to the left is blue GP40 417, and at the bottom is a switcher and mated slug. May 25, 2016.
